Looks like a Box Blur or Lens Blur to me.

Well I stand corrected. Though I’m still surprised it has generated so little traffic at the BM or this forum…?

Lucky to be using a Mac at the moment I guess… 🙂

Which plugins? Which plugin versions? Which version of AE?

Many older plugins won’t work in newer versions of AE.

That would involve a script within Photoshop, which might be better asked in the PS Forum.

    Here’s a step by step:

    1) Export footage from AE as an image sequence into an appropriately named folder. (PSD, TIFF or TGA)
    2) Open one of the files in PS. Create a new Action, record the steps you require, then stop the Action recording.
    3) Choose File/Automate/Batch Process. Choose the new action, define the Source Directory with the location of the image sequence, then run.
    4) Get a coffee.
    5) Import the image sequence back into AE. Check the image sequence box and AE will treat it as one footage item.

April 8, 2006 at 12:25 am in reply to: Nucleo on a Mac quad G5?

Nucleo on a Quad 2.5 has reduced render times from 2 to 4 times. I can’t recommend this product highly enough!

I’ve had an occasional issue with Trapcode plugins where one of the Nucleo nodes treats the plugin as unregistered, resulting in random red “Demo” x’s in the final render. But generally it’s been flawless.

“If you use some 8 bit AVIs it comes crashing down. Neither Black Magic or Targa 3000 clips that worked in 6.5 will work in 7.”

I use Blackmagic 8bit and 10bit files in AE7 every day without a hiccup. A quick look in the Blackmagic forum doesn’t show a single thread relating to this. If it were true, I suspect there would be numerous complaints from angry customers.

Shane, sounds to me like this is a system-specific problem, and not at all an AE7 issue.

After Effects has a Video Preview function that enables you to view your footage on a video monitor via Firewire and other devices. The ONLY way to reliably check your video work is to watch it on a video monitor.

Apple computers at default settings run at a different gamma level than PCs.

April 3, 2006 at 5:22 am in reply to: depth of field or fog in AE 3D?

To blur your images, you can either:

Add a blur effect to each layer, and manually keyframe the blur as the camera moves

    or

Turn on Depth of Field in your Camera settings. You’ll need to experiment with focal lengths and blur amounts until you get what you want.

To add fog, you will need to generate the fog on a solid with Fractal Noise or a particle generator (CC Particle World, Trapcode Particular etc) or locate some stock footage of smoke/fog. It will then need to be positioned in 3D space multiple times between your objects, probably with keyframed opacity to increase the visibility of the fog as the camera moves away from it.
