It sounds like you just need to move your anchor point to the bottom of the cube.

there are several plugins that do this kind of thing but if you want to do it with just what is already in cs4 you could add the cc scatterize effect to your heart and animate it coming in from the left.

you could use that image as a luma matte. Create a scale/opacity and warp animation on it to make it look like it’s burning on.

The easiest way for you to do this would be to duplicate the layer you want shattered and have the upper layer with the shatter effect moved in the timeline to start after the crow flies off. The lower duplicate would have no shatter effect.

Duplicate the layer. On the top layer Increase the contrast, Make a garbage matte, then do a Luma key. You can the add some kind of color effect or glow with an expression to make it flicker.

You could try a garbage matte and a luma key. it might work for the top 2. once he comes in it won’t work because of his black sweater. at that point you will have to rotoscope (which you may have to do to the entire shot if the luma key does not work to your liking.

create a solid. Open up the layer. Select the paint brush tool. Write what you want. Then set keyframes for the start and end stroke.
