    It’s funny, I always find this thread when some version of this problem consists (and I always forget and stumble on this thread).

    I have a new puzzle. I’m trying to convert the AVI file to an another so I can successfully playback the file on my macbook. But after following the workaround, or simply choosing to export to a .mov file, the video is all black frame, with none of the visuals that should be in the video.

    Any ideas?

    thank you for the tip! at this point, I’m not entirely sure what I am doing wrong. I have set up the Ramp effect, but the stroke does not start off in an ‘alpha mode’ despite the keyframes I set for the ramp.

    The stroke stays at 100% opacity no matter where I scrub on the timeline.

    December 2, 2012 at 1:53 am in reply to: Creating a Directional Opacity Property or Map?

    I am going to go with this solution, although it looks similar to the luma matte one as well.

    Thing is, I found the “gradient” button, but I have not found an “animate gradient” option.

    Also, how can you adjust the status of the gradient?

    Is there a way to make a gradient act as an alpha mask?

    right now, all that I see is a solid black and white linear gradient with no option to set a “fade to alpha” gradient in the Fill settings.

  • yes, it is the intro motion graphic NODE from 00:00 to 00:01.

    Note how the fill in the letters making up the word NODE have a directional opacity property (I think that’s what that is). Thats the essence of the effect I am trying to create.

  • To be clear, I am trying to keep the text layer itself in a static position.

    I am only trying to animate the directional opacity of the text, not it’s position. A good example would be the motion graphic for this youtube clip:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVAJBR07ryQ

    Not just the stroke, but the actual directional opacity of NODE’s fill is essentially what I want to reproduce (except the opacity directionally going upwards, not downwards as seen in the clip).

  • So how do InPointSensitivity and MidPointOpacitySensitivity values determine when the thing dissolves?

    Right now, using the script, the Opacity is stuck at 82% from beginning of the timeline to end, and scrubbing the timeline reveals no change in this opacity value.

  • thanks for the headsup! and where in the text layer am I entering these values?

    For example, am I entering SourcePos = transform.pos[1]; in an Animator 1 drop down in the Text Layer, or am I straight up entering SourcePos = transform.pos[1] into the standard Position effect in the standard Transform drop down menu?

    But where would I enter this? “InPointSensitivity = 100;
    MidPointOpacitySensitivity = -150;
    MidPointOpacity = height/2+MidPointOpacitySensitivity;
    InPointOpacity = height+InPointSensitivity;
    linear(SourcePos,InPointOpacity,MidPointOpacity,100,0)”

    thanks for the headsup! rather silly mistake to overlook on my end.

    However, the particle color is grey and the options to change the birth and death color swatches are greyed out. Any idea why this might be?

    Yes, I have.

    I am able to change the position of the entire mask–but aFX will not let me adjust individual vertices in order to change the direction of the splines.

    It doesnt seem to let me stretch the layers out.

    I tried to adjust the composition, but each layer insists on on remaining @ 30 fps.
