I get the same problem, and I too have 4 gig ram. However, I have checked Apples web page and it looks like the intel mac is quite picky about ram config. Check out the correct setup (how much of different kind of ram on each “side”..etc)

I am running a cluster with 12 different macs, and it is INSANELY FAST. However, all the macs are connected to our fiber based xsan system so I guess that is the reason why it works so well.

I am also thinking this way of having to enter the timecode manually is really annoying. It gets a bit better by just copying the inpoint from the timeline, and pasting it into the edit to tape window. But it is still kindof manual

Getting my decklinkcard working is sometimes a bit of hazzle. I just got too tired and went for a new Aja card. Frame accurate..

RevisionFX is great. I use it alot. However it’s quite slow. I find it faster in AE than FCP. Nattress is supposed to be good as well.

Finalcut is quitting quite alot these days. It looks like there is a memory leak that makes fcp quit after some rendering. This happens alot with me, and you loose renderfiles if fcp hasn’t saved before quitting. However, you shouldn’t render stuff you normally shouldn’t though. That should be easily solved

Well, I have done some research. It is true that there is a memory leak, and it gets worse the longer the render. The memory is freed up when you quit fcp. My fcp crashes without any aja card inside so I am not sure how the aja card is affecting things. I am using Magic Bullet and other 3d party plugins and I experience alot of crashes. I wonder if this is just bad programming from the pluginmakers, or if fcp crashes with any other rendering as well. When I used 5.1.4 I also had crashed but quite few. Now I get it all the time. Anyone else with the same experience ?

Do you have blackburst on the digibeta ? (syncsignal). I think I had a similar problem, to a digi, where the sound suddenly just got really distorted after 10 minutes of mastering. Strange thing, it had worked perfectly for 1 year. Got a syncgenerator, hooked it up to the mac and the digi. Everything else worked perfectly after that.

300 mb is ALOT. You should split your projects into smaller pieces. I find that 100mb is max to still work effective in fcp.

Dropped frames is usually from slow harddrives. There is no reason to panic though. Even on good working macs, I sometimes get that.

Seems like you have messed up the permissions badly. Run diskutil and select fix permissions. If this does not work, the easiest thing might be to make a new user from scratch and install fcp again.

You could also try running fcprescue that will delete your fcp prefs. That usually fixes fcp crashing during startup (however, not sure wether you still have fcp on your mac or not)

    Here is fcp rescue
