    Hi there all,

I am now officially an FCP user/owner, and at some point I will write some reflections on a first week of FCP/OSX, mostly good, but after ONE WEEK my system does not work properly… here’s what happened:

I installed Studio 2 onto my 8 core, registered at Apple, downloaded all the updates, everything was fine.

The system was taken to my workplace yesterday and the IT department had to create a new user so they could BIND it to their network securely etc. They had to delete “mark palmos” because they said the system did not like a space in the name, so they copied all my documents and desktop in that profile to another drive, created the new user.

Things were fine, but they messed permissions and I didnt have read-write access to the media drives, so that was eventually sorted. Then I copied and pasted the documents and desktop contents I had backed up, to the new markpalmos documennts folder. This, I think, is what caused the problem. FCP splash screen comes up, it starts loading plugins etc, then it disappears. Motion and Livetype work fine.

I tried to re-install the Suite but it said 90 mins or something, so I cancelled after it was done with the silver disk (programmes) and cancelled out on the install when it got to the content disks. This did not work. I then had to leave work for the weekend.

Do you know if there is an obvious thing that I should check/do to FCP/OSX? It seems this copy and paste of the settings overwrote something FCP is wanting, or perhaps the path, now changed from mark palmos to markpalmos, causes some problem… but no error messages at all from OSX or FCP.

    Thanks people,
    Mark.

Seems like you have messed up the permissions badly. Run diskutil and select fix permissions. If this does not work, the easiest thing might be to make a new user from scratch and install fcp again.

You could also try running fcprescue that will delete your fcp prefs. That usually fixes fcp crashing during startup (however, not sure wether you still have fcp on your mac or not)

    Here is fcp rescue

Thanks for the advice Anders, I will do that on monday and will report back… i have no idea what happened really as i wouldnt think fcp would need a user’s preferences for the programme to run.

    Till later

    Hi Anders,
The fcprescue worked, thanks very much… a bit scary FCP can get completely stopped by a few settings!!!
Btw, I noticed the author of fcprescue is also called Anders, but has a different surname from yours.
    Best regards,
    Mark.
