What about taking your existing earth map, add a blank layer in Photoshop above the earth one. Then paint in your clouds on that empty layer (or layers if you want more depth), cloud filters are under filters>render>clouds. Probably need to make an alpha for that layer, dump the earth image, save it, and map it onto a sphere slightly larger than the earth one. I hope this in some way; but like I just posted down below, I know enough C4d to be dangerous.

  • The size of the texture? I assume you dropped the global scale of the texture shader. Only shader sites I know of had the links in a recent post on this forum. Sorry I can’t help more, but I’ve got tons to learn. I know enough to be dangerous and thats about it.

    A great site that’s dedicated to C4d is https://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/index.php

  • If it looks like aluminum, I’d guess you have specular turned on. Turn that off and you should get what you’re looking for. But, it’s a guess based on theory; try posting an image like Brian suggested.

Yossarian, thanks for posting this one, I’ve had the same triangle problem myself. As for the banding, when making gradients for After Effects we use a small amount of noise to kill banding. You might want to try that in the material. You could do it in the color channel and it shouldn’t effect any other material parameters.

Thanks Adam. I did fake it, another way. Used a rainbow gradient in the Transparencies reflection channel. Kinda cheeseball, but it gets the point across. Still looks a lot better than anything I would’ve done in PS. Thanks for the help, and I’ll keep the tip in mind for future use.

Thanks Adam. Only problem is my brain. I’m color blind and I was just not seeing the colors correctly. I usually go by #’s. But in C4d I haven’t found a color picker that gives RGB #’s.

turns out being color-blind has its disadvantages.

Well, I copied over everything but the camera and spline to a new project. Made a new camera and spline and it worked fine. Thanks for the help guys.
