This may seem stupid but what are your hard drives formatted to? FAT or NTFS?

I recently bought an AVCHD camera but have only worked with small clips. Nothing bigger than about 2 minutes worth though so other than the HD issue I don’t know either.

What are you encoding from/to? In Vegas whether I’m using an AVI or MOV file, I always encode using the Motion Jpeg option and it doesn’t go all that slow. I get a great video and it plays fine on my MacBook Pro.

You may also look into a program called “Cinematize”. It costs a bit of money but it’s worth every penny.

Hi Steve

Only 1 thing I can say about that video. Wow! Sony has finally done a great job aiming this at the Pro’s.

I’ve been with Vegas since about 2002 or 2003. Recently I bought a new laptop and went with a MacBook Pro figuring I’d use BootCamp and install XP and my Vegas.

But I had to get final Cut Express because I’m collaborating on a few projets with an FCP editor. I’ve been telling him all about Vegas and this video will confirm all I’ve said. Everything I do in FCe on the MBP has to be rendered. What a time waster!

But I got to tell you; working with both Vegas Pro 8b and FCE 4 There’s things I like and don’t like about both. But more I don’t like in FC. I wish Vegas would do some of the stuff that FC does much faster and easier. I also wish that FC would do a lot that Vegas does easier. Comparing the 2? I’d have to stay with Vegas Pro! Oh yea.

Why are you goping to all this trouble? 60 to 90 minute video will make a very nice DVD depending on your settings.

I don’t know anything about Vista but personally I”d prefer to capture my videos directly in Vegas using the capture tool.

SD/DV is 13gb/h not 17. Just author a DVD in DVDA. Like John says you’re not going to get any better quality than what’s on the original tapes.

…and if you do decide to get Vegas 8 pro, I highly suggest you look at Untlimate S from Vasst. That program has some wonderful script choices for slide shows ala Ken Burn and other efects with a click of the mouse button.

Excalibur also does stuff like that. I have both and did some really cool slide shows for a few weddings I did.

Actually I use and prefer the nNovia system over the FS, especially for field work. With my DSR-250 I have to also have a tape in the camera (also my backup as JR says). My VX2000 will record direct but via the composite connections. To go FW it also needs a tape.

However I am considering this new Panasonic AG-HPX170 wich is a P2 camera and tapeless. So then I’d have 2 sets of digital files.

You may want to look into the Panasonic DMR-ES25, also discontinued but as of late there were still a few brand new ones on eBay at grweat prices.

You can also pause this unit as we use it for depositions. As to whether it will pause automatically, I can’t tell you because I’ve never tried that. But I do know you can’t even pause a lot of these DVD recorders.

On the ES25 you can al;so take out the DVD without finalizing it and do it later. This is great for tape changes at Depos also.
