This is a bit off-topic but since I use Vegas NLE, I’d thought I’d post here. Pioneer had a DVD player/recorder that had a useful feature for recording video from VTR / camcorders to DVD-R and would go into “pause” mode when the playback tapes would run out of recorded video. I get requests from clients who have old archive footage on tape and would like to have it dubbed to DVD. Rather than sit there and babysit the transfer, the 512H would be an ideal piece of gear. Of course, it’s discontinued and I’ve not found any newer model with this feature. Anyone find anything with this feature? If so, please post.

    Thanks,

    Chaz

You may want to look into the Panasonic DMR-ES25, also discontinued but as of late there were still a few brand new ones on eBay at grweat prices.

You can also pause this unit as we use it for depositions. As to whether it will pause automatically, I can’t tell you because I’ve never tried that. But I do know you can’t even pause a lot of these DVD recorders.

On the ES25 you can al;so take out the DVD without finalizing it and do it later. This is great for tape changes at Depos also.

    Just a correction…the unit I was originally looking for was a Pioneer DVR-510HS…not 511 or 512.
