Hi John

Wow! Okay my mistake. This is my first foray into any kind of HD. It says Full HD MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 It was easy for me to see and assume AVCHD seeing the AVC!

So what does this mean then and how to edit and make a SD DVD?

Do I still have to down convert or just lay it on Vegas timeline and edit? Now I’m stumped. Ive been using MPEG Streamclip and it seems to be working fine but maybe that’s not the way to go?

Well, I got this Sanyo Xacti HD which is a full HD/AVCHD cam and will shoot at 1920 x 1080. Nowever like you the files are MP4 and not M2T’s. However I’m using it at 720p 30

My Final Cut Express Log-and-Transfer won’t recognize them either.

So I found this MPEG Streamclip, a free open source program and on my Mac Book Pro I convert them using AIC but for Windows (yes there’s also a wnidows version) I used Apple Motion JPEG and imported the files right into Vegas. No problems at all. Did my thing in Vegas then made a DVD in DVDA.

But now I also have a lot of files to do so will look into Upshift as Streamclip won’t batch convert.

Hi Tyler

Just to clear my thinking, exactly which MPEG-2 template are you rendering to in Vegas? Are you using the DVD Architect Stream (PAL or NTSC) or a default stream?

If you’re not rendering to the DVD Architect NPEG-2 then it is possible DVDA will re-render.

My personal opinion? mac Book Pro. Yes you can install XP using the Bootcamp assistant as I was going to do. But with only a 120gb HD I decided not to. Although I hear you can install Windows on an external drive.

So I’ve been using FCE and now I’m getting Studio 2 because that’s what you need for the P2 camera on a Mac. Express won’t do it.

However another thing is on the brand new MBP’s there’s no firewire. I dunno what Apple’s doing there. MBP’s got the new Pcie slots so you need that adapter for the P2. I don’t know about the SxS card size though. I also plan to get the HPX-170

Okay, like I said it was probably a stupid question.

Sorry I can’t help you further though. I just bought a new Sanyo Xacti 1010 AVCHD cam but haven’t shot any long clips to try it. I’ll probably be shooting longer clips in the immediate future.

I have both Vegas 8 as well as Final Cut Express, I had to use MPEG Streamclip to get the clips into both, but after that it was easy sailing for the up to 2 min clips.

Maybe one of the other experts in AVC will jump in.

it has a wealth of information for converting NTSC to PAL. There’s a lot more to think about than just frame rate.

Glad it’s working for you so far. However you mentioned BootCamp above in configuring a dual boot system.

You mentioned Dell and Vista! Those are PC. Boot Camp is a MAC program and you use it on a MAC so you can make a dual boot system and be able to boot into Windows. Mac is Intel based now so both OS-x and XP/Vista will run on a Mac. Boot Camp wouldn’t do you any good on a PC; It installs Mac drivers on the Windows side. AFAIK

I see your’e using Vista? I don’t know anything about Vista except or the fact I personally won’t use it.

However with XP at least, I’ve read where it may be a good idea to put the paging file (swap file) on another drive other than your C drive. If you have more than 1 internal drive you might want to try putting the swap file on a second drive. That help me quite a bit.

Also I use AVG but am using their Internet security suite. I have a 3 pack license. AVG is one of the few if not the only antivirus that doesn’t affect Vegas aat all. I never have to disable it even when installing new software.

Personally I don’t use them at all, and all unsolicited marketing emails go into the spam folder. IMHO you’d be wasting your money.
