If the 29.97 is interlaced you could telecine it to 23.976 progressive and then speed it up to 25 with very little noticeable difference in playback.

I believe AviDemux will split without re-encoding, but I could be wrong.

    Worth a shot I guess.

  • Ah, yeah, well there’s a pretty vibrant contributor community, so maybe one day that stuff will get supported. Good luck!

  • For what it’s worth, I’ve used Virtualdub’s deinterlacing filter with great success. Of course that’s outside of Premiere, but it is free.

Ah, that makes it even better. Great stuff.

Ah, I knew there must be something like this! This is great as well.

Both of the suggestions have their benefits, but I think this is one of those things I’ll start using all the time. Thanks so much.

That’s a darn good idea. Thanks so much!

  • I’m using the AVCHD 720p24 Preset.

The 23.98 isn’t a limitation of the Project Panel as I have Titles and such that are all properly listed as 23.976. In fact, if I export the clip as 23.976 and then import it back into the Project Panel it is now listed as 23.976 just as it should be. It’s only the raw AVIs that are being switched to 23.98.

To make the in and out points I’m using the Source Panel to scroll to the general area, using the arrow keys to get the exact frame, and then hitting either I or O. Then I drag that from the Source Panel to the Timeline.

If I double click the file from the Timeline the I and O point are correct, it’s only on the timeline that it’s messed up, and when exporting.

Obviously I can avoid this by going two frames to either direction to “trick” it, but that’s tacky, annoying and shouldn’t be necessary.

I realize this is a strange issue, which is why I had to seek help here, so thanks for the replies 🙂

I still find this amazing. Is there a scenario wherein people were like “Man, I have WAY too many undos, they’re so useless!” ? 🙂

I seriously wish they’d go back to letting it be configurable.

  • I should probably add that these are Raw Uncompressed AVIs, so there should be no funny business 🙂
