  • Premiere CS5 Forcing 23.976 to 23.98 and losing frame accuracy

    Hey guys,

I’m having a problem where every time I import a 23.976 clip into CS5 it shows up as 23.98 in the Project box in the top left, but if you inspect the file properties it correctly says 23.976.

This wouldn’t be the end of the world, except it loses frame accuracy when I’m picking in and out points in the Source Window. When I drop that it onto the Timeline invariably either the beginning frame is one too early, or the ending frame is one too late.

This doesn’t happen with Premiere CS4, only CS5.

    Any ideas?

I should probably add that these are Raw Uncompressed AVIs, so there should be no funny business 🙂

What are the sequence settings you’re using for this material? It is 23.976 frames/sec yes?

That rounding you see in the nomenclature (23.967>23.98) has to do with a limitation of the digits that can be represented in the project panel…it doesn’t do anything to the clip.

How are you making the trims that end up being off?

When you double click on the clip that’s placed on the sequence, do the in and out points still sit where you put them?

I’m using the AVCHD 720p24 Preset.

The 23.98 isn’t a limitation of the Project Panel as I have Titles and such that are all properly listed as 23.976. In fact, if I export the clip as 23.976 and then import it back into the Project Panel it is now listed as 23.976 just as it should be. It’s only the raw AVIs that are being switched to 23.98.

To make the in and out points I’m using the Source Panel to scroll to the general area, using the arrow keys to get the exact frame, and then hitting either I or O. Then I drag that from the Source Panel to the Timeline.

If I double click the file from the Timeline the I and O point are correct, it’s only on the timeline that it’s messed up, and when exporting.

Obviously I can avoid this by going two frames to either direction to “trick” it, but that’s tacky, annoying and shouldn’t be necessary.

I realize this is a strange issue, which is why I had to seek help here, so thanks for the replies 🙂
