There was an early release of CS3 that would not reconnect to renders after a save and close. (even if you see the render files are actually still on your hard drive.)
Make sure you are running the latest CS3 patch.
My guess is that will resolve your issues.

Hey Jack…
typical problems are mismatch between stereo or Mono sources and track destinations.
Once audio is on the timeline, dragging and trimming can be hindered by the mix mode your track is set to (clip for track).
Hope that helps…

Hi Mark…
thanks for the feedback. I figured the Quadro would be useless for our tasks. I also figured a 4 core would be more than adequate based on pipeline.
our chief designer had some bad experiences early on with ATI and Motion. Anomalies with renders. Since then he’s been an Nvidia guy. Honestly, I’ve been on PC’s the last few years and Nvidia is generally taken more seriously in Pro space than ATI. Also the rest of our boxes are all Nvidia, and as we pass projects back and forth in the group, the results need to be consistent.

It is my understanding that both is possible.
enhanced editing and accelerated export to some specific formats using NVIDIA hardware.

I agree…
Create a sequence.
Sync audio and video in that sequence.
edit from that.
Not sure if you can subclip from a sequence though. You can add markers to it to easily navigate to your cut points.

Hey Eric…
check out the Media Browser panel. It’s like log and transfer but is use for reading the files natively, not converting them. It should understand spanned files fine.
here’s a video that might help:

this might help.
If you want things converted to one big file…
take a look at Cineform’s web site.
Their Neoscene tool should do this.

For the audio…
in general leave the audio low while you edit so you can make your decisions.
once you make you decisions, raise you music track back up to your max preferred level. then razor spit at your various in and out points where you want the changes to occur.
change the level of one of the clips so that the mix is the way you desire…then copy that clip and ctrl select others you want to match and paste attributes..this will quickly change the volume of the selected ones…
then using methods discussed earlier, use audio crossfade transitions to smooth the changes at the cut points….
or alternately…move the selected clips to a different track…
then you can use the mixer to set the level for that group all at once…and still use the dissolves on the first track to make the smooth fade between the two tracks…
that help?

Based on what you are suggesting, it sounds like you want to edit the multi cam source sequence and optimize it prior to actually doing the multi-cam switch edit. Am I getting closer to understanding you?

Hi Jonathan,
for sync reasons…I’m thinking it’s a 2 step process…
cut the multi-cam
(make a copy of that sequence)
ripple edit the copy
if you ripple delete selected source while editing, I would think sync issues would come into play…no?

Welcome Johnathan…
“Apply transitions to all selected clips- Yes I can cntl-D on clip and then Pg Down to the next clip, but I’m looking for a way to apply a video (or audio) transition to every clip I select. ”
Select your tracks, mark in and out around what you want affected…then check the menus, there is a way to do that in CS4 and later. (i’m sure this could be mapped to key combo as well)
“Switch from one transition type to another- My videos typically have a transition theme. I’d like to be able to switch all of my fade to blacks to cross dissolves for example. ”
See above. that would be the closest. There is no way to filter your selection by type of transition that I am aware of. Would be cool though.
“Ripple delete/insert including track volume envelop- In Vegas you can move all clips over OR you can move all clips over INCLUDING the track envelops. This is very useful when you want to add one additional picture in the middle of several montage songs. Let’s say I have dipped the volume envelop down at points in the music where there is talking, I can select this type of insert and my keyframes move over too so the volume dips are still in sync with my multiple audio and video tracks. Is there an equivalent in CS5? ”
PPro has a distinction between clip audio envelopes vs track envelopes. Envelopes applied to clips will ripple with the clip. Track envelopes will stay in place. However I don’t think even this addresses your question as you want the envelope keyframes to move without adjusting the the timing of the content (sound). Not sure how to deal with that one.
“Normalize all audio clips- Premiere allows you to normalize one clip or to normalize a group, but it does not allow you to normalize each clip on a group. My use case is where I have clapping and talking. If I normalize a group with both nothing happens because the clapping is too loud already… what I really want to do is just bring up the talking parts. Is there an easy way to do this for a whole track with lots of clips? Maybe this is something that can be done in Soundbooth? ”
A number of normalization functions were added in CS4, but I’m not familiar enough to expand on that. If none of those meet your needs, perhaps a better approach would be to explore audio Dynamics audio effects. Like envelopes, these can be applied at the clip level via drag and drop or the track level via the mixer window. If you’re dealing with riding the dynamics of a series of events, the track level approach would be better, IMHO.
“Stringing combinations of custom keys- How do I change the return key from “render and return to the beginning of the track” to render and stay in the same place? It’s the stop key in Vegas so I keep hitting it and losing my place. ”
Check your prefs. This one is there for sure.
hope that helps some.
