  • Why won’t Premiere save rendered changes?

Posted by Lisa Hurley on July 23, 2010 at 1:46 am

I’m having a strange issue with Premiere Pro (CS3). I have worked on several really large projects lately that when after I edit and render the project, save it, and then close the project and reopen it, the changes are not there.

    There are several things occurring:

    1. When I play the video back in the window, I can see the “cross dissolves” and “dip to blacks”, but they do not appear in the video. It just plays as if nothing is there (no dip to black or cross dissolve). This is after I’ve saved and closed a project down, and then reopened it. So I’ve been having to redo everything, every time I open a project back up.

    2. When I re-open a project, my color corrections are also gone. (Well, when I look in the effects window, I can plainly SEE they are still there; they just don’t play back as if they are there. So, to get them to work, I have to go back and redo it all.

Has anyone else had this problem? And if so… is there an easy fix? Maybe I’m doing something wrong. It only seems to happen if the project is really big.

    Thanx in advance!

    Curious to say the least!

When you save a project does it actually update itself ie DATE MODIFIED info and SIZE? (Check in File manager) If it does not then you have a problem with that particular project. It’s probably corrupted. Also check whether it is auto saving.

If the project is not updating try SAVING AS another project (this probably will not work if the original file is not saving).

You could try re-setting preferences to see if there is an issue there – hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys while you launch Premiere and you will have reset your preferences to default.

An alternative that has worked for me in the past is to open your existing project timeline sequence(s). Use select all to copy everything in it. (This puts your data into clipboard)

Close the project, open a new one using the same parameters as your old and paste into a new timeline. Then try and save. If this is successful repeat with any other sequences.

Your project media and decisions should easily transpose across. Any corruption in the original config should be left behind.

This might not solve your problem but is worth a try.

Perhaps in your reply you might indicate what size of project you are working on, formats, any third party plug-ins etc

There was an early release of CS3 that would not reconnect to renders after a save and close. (even if you see the render files are actually still on your hard drive.)

Make sure you are running the latest CS3 patch.

My guess is that will resolve your issues.
