Hi Adam,
Can you go through in some more detail the steps you are taking, and it’ll be clearer where you’re going wrong – or if all the steps are correct then you’re probably still missing drivers/plugins/updates.

Hi Steve,
To help with 1. and 2. –
Importing via XDCAM Transfer is fine, although there is a plugin to enable you to do it directly inside FCP. Google Sony Log and Transfer plugin.
Try changing your sequence settings (CMD+0) so that Compressor is set to ProRes 422 (i.e. not Compressor the software, compressor the render codec setting).
Then press Option+R to render all. (You may need to make sure everything is ticked/checked under the Sequence > Render All menu to ensure everything in the timeline gets rendered. There should sunsequently be a blue bar to indicate the render status, rather than green.
This will yield better quality renders than rendering to XDCAM and then to ProRes via Compressor as you were introducing an additional stage of particularly destructive compression with XDCAM as the sequence codec.Use Compressor just to create the DVD version, not the master sequence. You could also try tweaking the bitrate settings for the DVD compression if you’re just using the built-in preset.
For Number 3. –
Experiment with the Frame Offset number under System Settings (Shift+Q) > Playback Control
I’m guessing you’re monitoring audio via the Mac’s built in output rather than through the Blackmagic card??Hope this helps,

Sound advice, although I must admit it’s difficult to use the manual if you don’t know the name of the tool you’re looking for, as is the case of the original poster.

I think you are talking about the Roll tool – press R to select the tool, then click and drag on the edit point to simultaneously ‘roll’ the in/out of the two clips.
You can also select the edit point and press , and . to roll the edit one frame at a time to the left or right, or press Shift+, or Shit+. to roll 5 frames (you can change that number in the menu User Preferences>Editing>Multi-frame trim size)

Hi Jeff,
To my knowledge FCP onto renders the visible layers. Are you sure you don’t have something amiss on your top layer’s settings? Maybe opacity set to 99%, or not completely centred etc that would allow some of the V1 & V2 comp to be visible.

To help us narrow down the problem you need to give us more information…
1. How was this shot?
2. What codec are the captured files you’re editing with?
3. What are your sequence settings?
4. Do you have an external video monitor? If so, is the problem also visible on that?Having those pieces of information to begin with would usually mean that by now you would have a solution. It’s impossible to give technical solutions when you include no technical details in your question.

I must have missed something in my description as I was testing this process with an offline file myself. Testing again now and it’s definitely working for me.
Double check that your search terms are the same as mine. This is what to search for from the Browser…
…then click ‘Find All’ to find the sequences containing that file.
If you’re doing the same as me and this isn’t working then you have me stumped. All of these work-arounds aside, it’s ridiculous that in the ‘Missing Files’ pop up there isn’t an option to have FCP reveal the offline files in any sequences they appear. I feel a feature request coming on.

Hmm. Ok, try this (this will only work if you know the name, or part-name, of the offline file):
– In the Browser press CMD+F
– In the drop-down instead of ‘Offline (Y/N)’ select ‘Any Column’
– Type the name of the offline file in the search box and click ‘Find All’This will show all of the sequences in your project containing that particular file. Select them all in the Find Results window and you’ll notice they all become selected in the browser as well.
– Right click on one of the highlighted sequences and select ‘Open Timeline’. This will open all of those selected sequences.
REPEAT THIS FOR EACH TIMELINE CONTAINING THE OFFLINE FILE
– In the timeline window, press CMD+F
– Search again for the name of the file and click Find AllThis will highlight any occurrences of the offline file in the sequence, so just delete them and they’ll be gone for good.
