This question is 10 years old and relates to a very old version of FCP.

    [Shane Ross] “CIneXInstert and others”

Hi Shane – I realise it’s a year on since this thread was active but I’m curious what the others are that you referred to. I’m currently using CineXTools for an insert edit on the assumption that it’s the only thing out there that can do this properly (I don’t count QT7 in that). Have you used others?

    Cheers!

September 25, 2018 at 11:06 pm in reply to: Simple? Premiere timeline into Avid with linked media?

I tried to do this not long ago and eventually gave up. The closest I got was using Shane’s suggestion of rendering out fresh clips from Resolve, but that’s obviously not ideal. I refuse to believe that it can’t be done but I wasn’t willing to put the time in to experiment endlessly in the end.

As your DIT friend says, Automatic Duck will work. I used Automatic Duck to move an FCP7 timeline over to Avid about a month ago and it worked pretty much perfectly after fiddling with a few options. If you can find a machine with a working copy of FCP I think this is probably your best option (or if not best then it’s at least the one requiring the least manual labour). The crucial step was to have already imported or linked the files inside Avid first before importing the Automatic Duck AAF.

Sure… but there’s only one very good answer.

[Daniel Waldron] “Definitely going to check out Post Haste though”

    You won’t be disappointed.

It’s quite amazing how many times different people don’t want to listen to the right answer in this thread!

    Advantages of Post Haste:
It’s free and does everything (and more) that is being asked in a more straightforward way than any other suggestion.

Advantages of any other method being suggested:
    None

June 28, 2018 at 8:31 am in reply to: Headphone volume very low out of Mackie 802VLZ4

Just updating the thread – I’ve tested out with some other headphones and a different minijack to 1/4″ adapter and the problem remains, so I think we can probably rule out the headphones.

If anyone is familiar with this particular mixer perhaps they know of an obscure button and dial somewhere on it that might cause this problem.

I feel confident in ruling out the mixer headphone output itself as the source of problem because it does give me plenty of volume (albeit slightly distorted) when I push the pre fader solo button for either channel. That being the case, presumably something happening ‘post fader’ will be the problem… right??

I just can’t put my finger on exactly what, especially as the speaker output has always worked perfectly.

    Thanks for your response, Richard.

[Richard Crowley] “Do other headphones work with the Mackie 802VLZ4 mixer headphone output?”
I’ve not been able to check this yet as the DT770’s were the only headphones I had in the office. I’ll bring some earbuds in when I’m back in tomorrow to test those. I’m inclined to think that they work because as I mentioned in my initial post the level is much improved when the channels are soloed for whatever reason. For this reason I suspect the issue is with the setup of the mixer itself.

[Richard Crowley] “Do the Beyer DT770 headphones work with other gear’s headphone output?”
Yes – I’ve tested on my Mac Pro output and also the headphone output on my reference monitor and both work perfectly. However these are both plugged in via minijack so potentially the 1/4″ adapter that came with the headphones is faulty. I have spares so will test this tomorrow also.

[Richard Crowley] “The Beyer DT770 seems to be available in three different impedances: 32 ohms, 80 ohms, and 250 ohms.”
I have the 80 ohms model.

    Hi Robin,

Did you ever find a workaround for this? I’m in exactly the same situation and would prefer to cut in HD.

  • [Leonard Frankford] “My understanding of the sidecar file is that Premiere creates this on export for closed captioning, whether you create the captions yourself or import an .srt or some other type of captioning file.”

Actually I think what you’re expecting to happen is slightly incorrect. A sidecar file is exactly that – a file that is separate to the video file. It’s down to the playback software you use to be able to open that alongside the video file (VLC can do this for instance).

It sounds like what you want is a video file with the subtitles embedded inside the container (but not burnt-into the video) so that you can toggle them on/off. Is that right?
Whether this is possible depends on the container format you’re using – mov files can contain text tracks for instance, although I’ve personally never used this feature. Whether Premiere actually has the capability to create mov files with text tracks is another question but I can’t see an option for it. I assumed it would be the ’embed in output file’ option but that doesn’t seem to do anything.

Weirdly I’ve just done another test and created a completely new caption file inside Premiere (instead of importing an existing one) and this time it’s letting me export with a sidecar file.
