Hi Greg,
Sounds like corrupt files to me, and probably not yours or your system’s fault. Can you give some more information on the set up your using? Version of FCP, amount of RAM installed, where the files are stored, what camera build were the files shot on and what resolution etc.
Can you load any or all of the proxy files into FCP at all?
You might want to take a look at this thread for some possible answers.
REDrushes isn’t a particularly nice piece of software for transcoding. Have a look at Clipfinder (there is a free version which in your case does everything you need).

Hi Joe,
Try deleting the thumbnail cache (you’ll find it in the same folder that your capture scratch resides).
I’ve not tested this but I’m guessing it would work.

This is something I’ve thought that has struck me at times. I work for a production company called Blue Tuna. Absolutely nothing to do with TV but it seems to be working. The boss doesn’t really know where the name comes from either, he just mutters about vague relations to the environment whenever asked.

Have you tried running Compressor Repair, by Digital Rebellion? I don’t know what it does, but it miraculously fixes most problems I encounter with Compressor!

For sure, I always do the same. Better safe than sorry. Being on a big project with deadlines looming I haven’t got the time for things to go wrong even if I do have the peace of mind of having a backup!
I’ll be interested to hear of any issues or improvements you and others come across. I could certainly do with some improved stability, although that’s not really an FCP issue.

Hi Erik,
ProRes for sure. It’s just a case of deciding which one to go with. Do you intend to work with a traditional offline/online method, or do you have the drive space and necessity to be working at online quality from the start?
If it’s a large project, which you seem to be saying is the case, I’d use ProRes Proxy for offline work, and then online with ProRes 422 SQ.

Hi Martin,
All of the ProRes codecs work well with each other. You’ll need to render for your final output, but it will all playback in realtime as your editing. To be honest from an HDV source ProRes LT will probably look as good as ProRes 422 anyway.
By the way, 100 hours of ProRes LT is just over 5TB so you will definitely need more storage if you go for that option. AIC isn’t much less so I’d definitely stick to ProRes.

Ok that sounds correct. I guessed at you monitoring via the Mac output as it would definitely have produced sync issues. Is the sound in sync if you listen on the Samsung? (Does the HDMI signal include the audio??) If it’s in sync on the Samsung it would point to a difference in the time to carry the signal over HDMI vs XLR.
I don’t know the Blackmagic cards well, but is there a sync offset setting or anything in the control panel? Might be worth asking in the Blackmagic forum as other people must have encountered this.Good luck,
