    Hi Ed,
If you look at your PB System Profiler, it will show you that there is only one F-W 800 Bus.
Even though there are two FW Ports ( a 400 and an 800) the bus speed will drop to the slowest device ( eg camera at about 100mbs) with these attached.
My LaCie 800 card creates a whole new 800 FW Bus. (look at the system profiler with the card attached). The 400 may be a few $s less, but at the cost of speed.

  • John,
    1. Are you using a different drive for media?
    2. How full is this drive?

    Terence,
What capture settings did you select for FCP? If you got it wrong the render bar appears, get it right, no render after capture, got it?
    Cheers

    Neil,
Which version of FCP? “Capture Now” does not work in Version 5 for some. Start using “Logg and Capture”.

Did you import from a Canon camera? This interprets audio at a slightly different rate.

    Erich,
FCP doesn’t read mpeg2 files. The QuickTime player reads them as square pixels.

    Hi Joe,
I may be wrong, but the Apple tut files are often in a tighter codec than the real projects. If you are loading into a new project that you’ve guessed settings for, you’ll see the render bar.
Stay with the project file that comes with the tut, the T-L settings will match the media.

    Chris,
1.5G is an overall RAM figure.
