Which version of QT was on the other Mac that you used on the project?
They should be the same to avoid recognition problems.

If I’m not mistaken HDV is mpeg2, and your QT player is missing this component.
Test this file in DVDSP.

Normal for the Canon GL1.
What you are seeing is the overscan area, you should not see this on a TV.

If you know the shutter speed/s you can play with the new Optical Flow technology built into Compressor 2.
Experiment with this to remove the strobing and give you an acceptable visual result, then change the frame-rate of this back to 29.97 before encoding to mpeg2.
