I feel horrible asking this question however here it goes: What is appropriate record setting on the Canon GL-1…I am getting two side bars in my external monitor from footage I captured with the GL-1…Not sure if I should be seeing this…I previously used a Sony DSR-VX 2100 and didn’t get the two black (verticle) bars on each side of the external monitor…is there a certain setting I should record in the the future? FYI. I don’t have the original Canon User Manual…trial by error…but trying not to do that…any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

It sounds like it is in 4:3 when you are hoping for it to be in 16:9… This may sound brain-dead, but did you film in 16:9?

    Normal for the Canon GL1.
What you are seeing is the overscan area, you should not see this on a TV.

    Cheers

this is a link for the user manual in pdf form. If it does not work, try to google canon gl-1 user manual pdf.

While you are at it, check to see if you have the latest firmware update.

One cool thing about pdf user manuals is you can search through them quickly for any keyword.
