Can I run FCP to edit HDV on a Imac?
Hello,
I love the Mac Pro, but not in my price range.
I’m going to get either a HD100 or a Z1 and I was wondering if I can edit the footage using FCP on a Imac 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Is it going to be good enough to edit HDV?
besides storage and speed what am going to miss, if I compare the system to the mac pro.Also, if I was going with the Mac Pro, is it really worth it to go with the 2.66 ghz instead of the 2.0? Are we talking peanuts here.
The monitor on the Imac that interest me is 20-inch widescreen LCD
1680×1050 resolution, this resolution is HD, correct?
I’m not a pro, just an amateur, so I’m not planning to make a living generating millions of HD DVD, but I’m planning to edit docmentary and long narrative shot on HDV.

the iMac will suit your needs just fine. pick up an extra firewire drive for storage.

If you can swing it, look seriously at the 24 inch iMac.
Not only the larger screen which is full HD, but also 800 firewire port.
This faster drive hookup is great for DV or HDV editing or just for
backup.Dan

So the 800 firewire is mainly to link to an external HD, not to transfer footage from cam to computer?

firewire 800 is backwards conpatible so the camera will work through it.
