No, why do you say that? My Dell laptop with MacDrive can read 8-bit uncompressed Apple codec via fire-wire 400.

the reason for this question is that a Windows machine with MacDrive is being used to encode video. The resultant file is either incomplete (does not write to the end) or has artifacts at odd points.
My thoughts were that it is reading some undeleted files.
The only other reason I can think of is the 4-pin firewire port in the windows machine is inadequate for the Data comming via the 6-pin FW 400 port on the Mac formatted external drive.
Any ideas please?

I am refering to external drives.
In Panther (I have an unfinished project) the “secure erase’ is not an option.
Erase there is so darn quick, I doubt it is overwriting, as does ‘secure empty trash”
which takes so… much longer.
So what is the best option for a clean external media drive in Panther?

True, but the current system is really stable for FCP4.5HD…….
Really curious as to what has gone south.
If it goes down and I want to rebuild this stable system, what is your view re my cloning path, as in my last post?

Origional was Jaguar

It’s real. My other Macs will boot off it.

It is a retail disc, and had been used on other Macs.

Now I have projects in 10.3.9 that I need to finish. I want to do an archive and install.
No go, any other ideas? The origional install disc that came with the G4 PB won’t boot it either.
One thought I have is:-
Clone the HD, erase the drive and re-install the Panther OS, and update to 10.3.9 .
How do I then bring the origional archive back from the clone?

iDisc sucks for such a large update load, takes FOREVER, tried it, overnight+++ and still incomplete!! I’m not going there again.

You’ll have to re-format, which means you will loose all your data, so move it to another drive first, then move it back after formatting.
