my G4 PB, (OS10.3.8) does not boot from the Mac OSX Panther disc, my other Macs will.
Otherwise the PB operates ok, Disk Warrior boots it ok. Tiger install disc boots it ok.
I’ve tried the C key, the Option key to select the install disc, no go.
It just won’t recognize the start-up on the install disc.
“What system did the computer come with? Is the original system panther or tiger?”
Origional was Jaguar
“Is the panther boot disk a real apple disk or did you burn it?”
It’s real. My other Macs will boot off it.
“Did the panther disc come with a different computer?”
It is a retail disc, and had been used on other Macs.
Now I have projects in 10.3.9 that I need to finish. I want to do an archive and install.
No go, any other ideas? The origional install disc that came with the G4 PB won’t boot it either.
One thought I have is:-
Clone the HD, erase the drive and re-install the Panther OS, and update to 10.3.9 .
How do I then bring the origional archive back from the clone?
Thanks for your help
[Simon Carlson-Thies]“Have you tried inserting the panther disc and going to system prefs and selecting the install disc manually as the startup disc?
No, but I’ll give that a try.
Also are you using a USB keyboard on the computer, if so are you holding C on the USB keyboard or the laptop keyboard? If USB keyboard try holding C on the laptop keyboard and see….”
Tried that=no go
“Though if the machine is working fine at the moment I probably would let it go, since you can boot of the tiger disc and I would imagine if the system ever gets hosed you’d upgrade to tiger anyways..”
True, but the current system is really stable for FCP4.5HD…….
Really curious as to what has gone south.
If it goes down and I want to rebuild this stable system, what is your view re my cloning path, as in my last post?
