Whoa, too harsh, so you think Hollywood DVDs are the “last resort”?
Actually there are some brilliant m2v encoders out there, eg ever tried CinemaCraft plug-in for Compressor? You just have to learn to use them to the max.Cheers

We don’t really know whether the pixilation is on the original tape, or from the m2v compression on the DVD source.
So where/how are you extracting the media, and viewing this pixilation, in FCP on computer, external monitor? (or on DVD where you yourself may have created those compression artifacts)
Download MPEG Streamclip and extract the original DVD media to ProRes codec, re-edit in FCP.
What is your final destination media?Cheers

and yes it’s possible to put the same audio and video data in different containers. The resulting file may or may not be playable, depending on the container/codec support.

Of course, If you wipe your disc they will all dissapear. FCP remover will also take them out.
Look for your plug-in collection in the Final Cut support folder, and copy them to an external card
for reinstalling, most should work, but if not, the designer will have upgrades.Cheers

Use another Mac and connect with fire-wire. Start yours in target mode, and empty your trash from the attached Mac. Disconnect, re-start your Mac, repair permissions, and rebuild your directories with DiskWarrior.

“YUV 4:2:2 Color encoding (not for DVD use)

Did you move your media, and/or have duplicate clips/clip names?
Start again clean, work carefully.Cheers
