We shot our first day’s footage, and the sound was recorded separately. But, the camcorder mic still has sound on it. I wasn’t given the external sound yet.

The footage was transferred to .mov and put on my External HD. I was going through each take on Quicktime and they played perfectly.

I imported two clips to Final Cut Pro 4.5 and the video needs to be rendered and there’s no sound.

Does anyone know why this would happen? More importantly, how do I correct it.

    Thank You: George

It sounds as if ancient FCP dies not like something about the files, but you haven’t told us enough about how the files were converted to QT or to which codec, and without more specifics it’s tough to help.

Thanks. Here’s what my DP sent me.

The original files were from the “P2 Card” from the camera. I used FCP7 Log and Transfer function to convert them into .mov files. the Codec is

Nothing strange there George, DVCPro should not be a problem. Is your version of QT compatible with FCP 4.5, or is it perhaps a more recent version? 4.5 does not work with every version if QT.

I constantly update my Quicktime, is that a problem?

The video plays fine in 4.5. It just doesn’t import the sound. It’s strange.

and yes it’s possible to put the same audio and video data in different containers. The resulting file may or may not be playable, depending on the container/codec support.
Check the codecs of the audio files.

    Cheers
