I think that MC 2.5 with Mojo SDI might be a hit. $7,500 for that, about. And an SDI based Mojo for Xpress Pro. I have a Mojo now and I would love to have HD monitor out, and capture to DNxHD. It sounds like it all is happening. I think the lower end, just got a nice healthy boost.

What OS specifically are you running? XP Pro SP2, Home, Media Center?

How much memory do you have?

What happens when you Quit Avid?

  • You could try a completely separate FireWire BUS. Meaning that you use another FireWire card, plugged into a PCI slot, and that this slot is not on the same bus as the FireWire card used with the mojo.

I have not tried that myself, but that would be the best possible result. I use Highpoint Rocket Raid controller / SATA II array. That works very well.

    Hope that helps.

There is no way at this time that I am aware of. You could ingest with MC and edit with AXP, or use the Avid Mojo with component to ingest 1:1. It will look pretty darn good that way. If you go that route, you need to buy a cable adapter for the Mojo, which is really two sets of cables. Both must be used. One is for input, the other for output.

    Hope that helps.

p.s. Stay tunes for new news after NAB. Many have begged for SDI on AXP for a couple years, and we’re all crossing our fingers. Since NAB is just a week away, you may as well wait a little bit and see if anything comes up that changes this situation.

Xpress Pro and DV both work the same way. You can use MXF as well.

    Hope that helps.

There is the DMTS DVD-ROM video. It is 7.5 hours of instruction.

    https://www.creativecow.net/articles/alexzander_alex/DMTS_avid_xpress/index.html

Avid also has 2 hour video roms, with lessons, and those can be purchased in a bundle of 3 videos for $199.

Also check out, the Avid Handbook by Steve Bayes, 4th edition. There is a Peach Pit Avid XPress Pro book as well, which is a good reference tool for looking for specific help on a topic you’re stuck on.

For tips, try the CMP book, “On The Spot” with Avid DV and Xpress Pro. There are a lot of tips in that book. IN fact, it’s a book of tips. You read just parts of it at a time to help you through Avid processes that might otherwise not be understood as a new user to the platform.

    Hope that helps.

Is it simply capturing a little before the selected the clip, or are you actually missing footage you had marked by timecode for capture?

Free DV will give you a brief of the interface basics, but it is so limiting, you might start with Xpress DV. But then if you’re in school anyway, you can get the education discount on Xpress Pro HD for $299 I believe. Get a pretty solid Pentium 4 with an nvidia graphics card and it should run just fine. Say two hard drives. 1 for the OS, and make the other the capture drive.

As long as you’re not after doing 1:1 uncompressed, Xpress Pro HD without a Mojo will run DV25, 50, 100 HD, and HDV. It’s a lot of bang for the buck. Go to https://www.visiblelight.com/mall/productview.aspx?sku=cceb and buy their $58 MPEG2 encoder, and you can use the included DVD authoring application that comes with the Avid to compress footage and author DVDs. You’ll likely spend under $500, not including the cost of the PC. Pickup a cheap MiniDV camera, and start shooting. You’ll have everything you need to get started.
