If you go to Avid’s site, you can read about what tools are actually used on the films they showcase. They always have quite a few new and currenrt films in their showcase.

Sounds like he wants to run Liquid Edition, which is not a Mac application. It’s PC only. If he actually wants to run Avid Xpress Pro, then I am not sure the nw Quad is certified for Xpress Pro. The nornal Dual is for sure.
I do the same. I add tracks. Not uncommon for me to have 6 or 7 video tracks. It’s an easy way to go. But, if you master the various trim techniques, it’s darn good that way too.
