Hi Dan,
I want to say that you do not need any additional events if you want to create transition. A transition can be applied to a single event. All you have to do is to create a fade in or fade out and apply the transition.BTW, check out 3D Six-pack transitions from Pixelan

Scripts will do what you want (you need Vegas Pro). You can try to find a free script or use the paid tools, like Quick Properties from Vegasaur extension. (It has free 30-day trial period) -

You can freely use it for 30 days, so you can back up and restore your presets without headache -

Yes, this is important. These buttons define the scope where the key combination is suitable for use. So, you have to select Global before assigning the keys.

Since you are working with Vegas 8 you don’t have the “Automatically crop still images added to timeline” option, which Vegas 9 has 🙁
Paste Event Attributes copies the Pan/Crop settings “as is”, so if your images are different in size – they will NOT be matched to the project aspect ratio.
What can you do? You can use scripts for this. For example, Vegasaur contains Match Output Aspect one-click command (and many other useful tools) that will do it for you. You can freely use it for 30 days.
