best way to select L/R channels on audio track?
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on August 30, 2010 at 7:36 pmHi Everyone.
Is there a one-click method of muting a take? Or… is the toolbar customizable?
It would be nice to quickly mute an event when editing instead of right-clicking, etc.

August 30, 2010 at 8:01 pmIf you place a volume envelope on the track, then you can double-click and event to make a quick timeline selection and then pull down on the volume envelope to create a quick duck in the volume. This works for Vegas Pro 9.0 only (not earlier versions).

August 31, 2010 at 5:01 amHi Gilles,
Select Options > Customize Keyboard. Then type Edit.Event.Mute in the search box and assign a shortcut for this command (For example Ctrl+Alt+M). Click OK.
Now you can mute/unmute all selected events with a keystroke. -

That will be as close to a perfect solution as I will get!
If only Vegas would have the capability to assign such commands to custom buttons, wouldn’t that be a dream?
Thanks again!

August 31, 2010 at 2:53 pmOh yea, I forgot you can just right-click and mute a single audio event. Making that a hot-key is a great idea.

August 31, 2010 at 6:16 pmI do like that feature added in 9, but if you just want to mute entire clips you don’t even need a volume envelope, you can just grab the gain at the top of the audio track for that clip and drag it to the bottom, right?

Yea, that works too but it’s hard to detect later because it’s not obvious that you lowered the volume that way. I like Aleksey’s way of muting the audio event because if gives you a visual indicator that the event is muted which may come in handy later when you can’t figure out why there is no audio! lol.

August 31, 2010 at 7:05 pmI absolutely agree, I love mapping handy functions to keyboard commands. The only downside to how wonderfully configurable Vegas is, is on the rare occasions when I have to reformat or when I build a new pc. Takes me quite a while to remember and reset all the custom settings, plugins, etc.

September 2, 2010 at 8:25 pmHi Aleksey
I tried this and it’s not working for me. I see that the keystroke is indeed associated with the Edit.Event.Mute cmd but when I select a track and hit this key combo nothing happens.
any ideas?
by the way “Explorer” is the box selected in the key assignment screen, if this makes a difference.

You should select events (not track).
“by the way “Explorer” is the box selected in the key assignment screen, if this makes a difference.”
Yes, this is important. These buttons define the scope where the key combination is suitable for use. So, you have to select Global before assigning the keys.
