1) Vegasaur version? (use the latest build, v2.1)
2) It’s hard to say why Restore Media is disabled (contact support with details), but you can replace the m2t files to the originals as usual – specify their extensions, select a folder, and click Replace.

1. Use {EOC} code (all codes you will find in the Help)
2. I guess yes, but only manually (via codes)
3. Use Tools > Scripting > Export Closed Captioning for YouTube

p.s. from your questions I conclude that you want regular subtitles – closed captions is a different beast…

In Options turn off “Close media files when not the active application”

I’m afraid there is no way to change compositing mode with keyboard.
The only way to do it – write a script and assign a keyboard shortcut to it in Options > Customize Keyboard

You need Sony Vegas Pro.
Sony Movie Studio does not support many features.

Are you sure that there are no effects applied to Video Output Bus (or track/media/event)?
Also make sure that Split Screen View button is not checked (in the Video Preview Window)

There are 2 different durations: media duration and event duration.
You change the first (media can be animated, not static solid color), event duration is changed by dragging its edge.

As for your original question – you can use View > Edit Details window to change the length of the selected event.
More convenient way – scripts (eg. this one)
