  • Basic question-edit duration of solid color event

I’ve got a very basic question …. If I want to add a solid color event from media generator, and have that event be a specific length, how do I do that, other than dragging the length in the timeline?

I see a duration field in the event properties, but if I edit that, it doesn’t change the event in the timeline.

eg. the solid color defaults to 10 seconds (I think… I’m away from the computer right now), and I want it to only be 1 second long. It’s a bit of a pain manually dragging it down to one second, as I have to zoom way in to do it.

If I edit the duration from 10 seconds to 1 second, nothing changes with the event in the timeline.

Hello Shawn, if you modify the length of the event in the media generator, you will get a small sign in the event on the timeline. In order to see it, you have to increase the length of the event.

This rule is true for shortening as well.

There are 2 different durations: media duration and event duration.
You change the first (media can be animated, not static solid color), event duration is changed by dragging its edge.

As for your original question – you can use View > Edit Details window to change the length of the selected event.
More convenient way – scripts (eg. this one)

Another quick way to cut down any clip to 1 second is to go to the start of the clip, then press Ctrl+G to set the cursor time. Press +1.0 and it will skip ahead exactly one second. Then you can press S to split the clip and DEL to delete the extra.
