reverse telecine footage from 24p timeline. (disclaimer, i’m talking about watching on a computer monitor) yes, DVDSP does create a 27.97 timeline, but there is no interlacing – clean progressive picture.

    ok. why?
i’m sorry, maybe i’m asking the same questions over and over again, but there’s just so much to wrap my mind around.. in addition to seeing what i’m seeing on the screen.

    ok… i can believe that…
but i do see a difference in image quality between the footage that was reverse telecine’d and that wasn’t when playing the dvd. what’s going on there?

so can i just leave the 30i in the 24p timeline, then export using compressor for DVD with “best” setings? or do i have to go into each clip, get source file, convert to 24p, get it back into timeline, etc..? i mean, i’ll kill the next few days doing that and i can’t justify it, even if it does make it look better..

well, it’s not 24pa, but it’s 24p that was conformed to true 23.98p using cinema tools. a lot of the footage is like that. but some scenes i need to cut in are shot in 30i. how do i best conform it to 23.98p?

also it’s more of a DVD authoring question, but can i get in trouble if i put both 24p and 30i clips in the same dvd (not same tracks of course)?

    around $40.

i don’t need much speed for this solution.
did i hear you mention using the camera?

I don’t know about photoshop elements.

also, i don’t think fcp cares whether your photoshop file was square or rectangular pixels, i don’t believe it can read that information.

bottom line is, if you import a graphic file with native codec dimensions, such as 720×576, it will match the video size and won’t have to rescale it. if you import a 4×3 image, fcp will have to rescale it. it is generally recommended to pre-scale the graphic files before import (someone please correct me if i’m wrong). whether you work with non-square or square pixels in photoshop seems to be a moot point. the question is, which resizes better, photoshop or fcp? frankly, i’ve never quite noticed, or cared to notice the difference.

    Tom,

    i’m confused. i guess i need a pointer now..

so what’s wrong with creating your graphics in a preset photoshop document, such as PAL 720×576 aspect ratio 1.07 or NTSC preset, or whatever preset you need. when you draw a circle in that – it’s a circle, etc… no resizing needed. am i wrong?

    Alec.
