    hi,

i am trying to create what seems to be a simple effect. i’ve created a few bouncing circles in the frame, and i want to put footage inside.
    here’s the work in progress:
    https://teletimevideo.com/AE_TESTS/Outro_1.mov
i used the shape layer to create the rings, animated ellipse path size and i hand-synced a round mask on the solid layers to match the rings. now, when i replace solid with footage it gets really messy. i wouldn’t mind it, but it’s a template for a number of videos to be created, so i would love to figure out how to link the mask on the footage to the circle mask. even better, if i could figure out how to create transparencies just for the insides of the rings, so i can just use the template and composite the footage in final cut pro.

if anyone is interested, the project is here:

    Thank you very much!
    Alec.

Duplicate your shape layer, set the fill to white & remove the stroke. Then put the fill layer above the background and set it the backgrounds trackmat layer. That will have the strokes animating in with the background transparent inside the circles.

From there you can export to FCP with the alpha channel or put your footage behind the background and use some simple masks to stop them overlapping take your pick.

Only in after effects do children get to pick and whip their parents.
