October 16, 2011 at 9:05 am in reply to: How do you add more than one favorite to a clip?Yes, use keywords for overlapping favs. Also keep in mind you can apply a shortcut to a keyword. So you could create a rating with keywords.
For example: CTRL-1 is “*****” CTRL-2 is “***”
Now you create your in out for the first range, hit F and hit CTRL-1 to mark it 5star. Select Your second range, hit F and CTRL-2 keywording it 3star
You will now have two bins 5star and 3star which will also hold your favourites.
If you now start also keywording your favourites (instead of renaming the clips) you can create smartcollections that contain “5star shots”, favourites and the keyword “museum of modern art” for example.Try it, you will be amazed how quickly you organized your material

try it tomorrow and let you know if it helped 😉 -

September 28, 2011 at 12:02 pm in reply to: XDCam HD 422 – excruciatingly slow transfer speedsJim, we have the same issues here. Which driver did you install now?
We tried different ones and had terrible results on Lion and Snow Leopard machines, Macbooks and Mac Pros.
My speed is 0,2x realtime. So 4GB took me one hour to capture…….

Craig, yes I have the new ProApp codecs installed. XDCam EX is ok, it is the XDCamHD422 codec that is having hiccups. unfortunately that is the broadcastcodec……..

Tested your old version with the 10.0.1 and found it still buggy…so I came back here and you had it fixed already…haha. THANK YOU!

Happened to me also once. Lost work from 11pm to 2 am that day. Sucks.
But the update hopefully fixed this and I now instead of saving just check if undo works 😉 -
[Simon Ubsdell] “Essentially all they’re doing right now is making up for the limitations of a trackless paradigm – and not even quite doing that in my view. Do they actually as currenly constituted give you more organizational control than you had with tracks? I love for instance that you can solo stems from the Timeline Index, but then you could easily solo stems with the FCP7 track-based paradigm as well.”
The problem is…..in FCP7 you have the stems constantly blocking you from working freely. The magnetic timeline allows you to forget about all the tracks, which connections are where, which tracks need to be locked and so forth. There is not much gain UNTIL you output, which is the final stage of the project.
In FCPX you edit away and then have to spend time to sort out different languages/audiotracks and the roles-model might be a big help.in overall speed and elegance the roles are defintitely on a level with FCP7´s track-paradigm. I agree though they are not visually self-explaining to other editors as tracks though.

To the initial question: If you just want to select all behind the a certain clip, because you want to add a gap (I did that a lot in FCP7 also) you put your playmarker to the certain time in the timeline. Then hit “OPT-W” which will create a GAP-CLIP from this point on. That you can now drag as far as you want. So you didn´t select all behind, bit you can still fit in a gap.
Another way would be to Lasso the clips and move them with the “P” tool selected (position tool). That will also create a GAP.

First the in-FCPX solutions:
Events cannot be placed into folders, so they are all open when the disk is mounted
Projects can be put into folders, so that helpsoutside FCPX
there is an app (i think it´s called eventmanagerX), I don´t use it, because I use the next method, but I heard it works goodThe easy way is to create directories where you park your events and projects. I always have a structure “year/client/project/” in here I create “FCPEventsParked” and “FCPProjectsparked”. Once you drag your Event and Project out of the “root/Final Cut Events” and “root/Final Cut Projects” they are not visible in FCPX anymore. Takes a second.
Actually…I might take a look at this eventmanager app myself now, haha.
