Paper is a bitmap, not a “true generator” , So you can´t adjust it.
Keyboardshortcut for Trim Start works fine here. But I moved it….still works 😀 -
haha, sorry for mistyping. but i see you understood what I meant.
maybe i did have too much of that brew over the years, as someone suspected.I do very well understand the way productions work on different levels, since we use the same tools as anyone else (well, not 65mm – never got my hands on something like that). but at the same time I just wanted to point out that nobody knows how the other shops workflow is and will be and merely throwing a new software under the bus, because it can´t be used in the current workflow, is just not enough IMO.
I totally understand that for many productions FCP-X is far (maybe years) from being usable. But we for instance have already equipped machines with it and create “hot” productions with it. And the people at the networks who pay the bills have been informed and basically don´t flinch, but trust my promise to meet deadlines and qualitydemands.
I can tell you in a few months how it all went, but I am confident with FCP-X and one or the other roundtrip via FCP7 / Soundtrack / Color we will get it done and we might have a little advantage once FCP-X is indeed ready for primetime; we will know its ins and outs by then.
Sorry again for calling 35 32. I can imagine how that stuck a fork in your eyeballs…..

He/She does a great job identifying certain problems especially with compound
clips in a very fair and constructive way. Good stuff. -

July 2, 2011 at 7:17 am in reply to: 3rd Party Developers – PLEASE DO NOT SELL IN APP STOREScott, i didn’t want to say it is unsafe to buy directly from Nattress, I did so often already.
I just wanted to say I see no problem in buying top-notch plugins via the app-store. Just because it is an app, doesn’t mean it is a toy. -
The timeline is a winner. i understand that some would like to “turn it off”, but I have to say since I cam to FCP I hated the way the timeline was. Open-Timeline? Who says it was open? It kept asking for keyboardhits that are unnecessary. double-R here, s-there, double-s again,….now you hit T and then the tool adjust to your mouseposition like Edius and Fast and others did long ago.
L- and J-cuts are soooo fast now, you simply don´t need to think about what you have to press to do it, you just do it.I don´t understand why so many people say FCP7 was so much better. It wasn´t.
I have yet to come to a situation when I messed something up in FCPx. Well, that´s not true, I deleted a clip in the primary storyline and there went the connected clips with it……but that was fixed fast 😀
The editing process is just much better now. It doesn´t heal all the other problems we have, but at least you can edit faster and at the moment use the saved time to fix the other problems (audio-export etc)

July 1, 2011 at 11:53 am in reply to: 3rd Party Developers – PLEASE DO NOT SELL IN APP STOREHaha…..I believe the iOS app-store has proven to be a nice way to make money for developers.
What should the developers save us from? The Apple-setup is brilliant. They build a nice framework for a ridiculous 300 bucks (well, it will be nice in a while at least) and let the developers do their magic and let the user buy what he needs.
If you never use multicam, why pay for it? if you never need more than the built in colorFX…why pay for them. if you like 90% of users never ever need to output to tape anymore….well then why have it?i remember when a cameraman said: the day i need to roughcut on the road and not have an editor do that, i will stop being a cameraman. Guess what….he woke up, he is now using metadata on his P2 gear to prepare the footage for the edit. jobdescriptions and workflows change, apple adjust their businessmodel to it and vice versa.
i for my part can´t wait to buy for instance Nattress-plugins via the Appstore. Why not, safe, fast, easy and if i lose the licens Apple kept track for me. Convenience is king.

I think what many forget: it´s a 1.0 release of a NEW software.
i already did 2 little projects with it. Both 1080p projects and my Macbook and my Macpro finally worked as they were supposed to.I treid several things that I need and I found almost everything somewhere in FCPx. Different and I needed the manual, but i got it doen nonetheless.
There are still missing parts: e.g I NEED a vectorscope and a waveform. Don´t want to switch between them. Stuff like that. Little stuff that annoys some more than others.
Like the dissolve on a graphic which the OP mentioned. I use CMD-V to open the keyframes and in opacity use the fade-slider like I did in the old FAST. Works, takes a bit longer than CMD-T alone though. At the same time there is huge potential for this software. Several new shortcuts are saving lots of time, audition….monster tool, etc.
Bottom Line: Every software can do everything – almost. Heck, people made good stuff with Premiere 4. Apple will listen and will bring upgrades soon. Hang in there folks.

i got the formatt FM500. it is solid metal with a huge frenchflag and looks great. in the easy version (simply a 72mm adapter) you need to load the filters from the bottom, but that is the only “down”. for that price i have no problem loading from down. i have a UV filter between the lens and the mattebox and am able to even load the frontfilter from top (or a gradfilter).
the FM500 goes for around 200 i think.
