Yes. I used the test file and got the same results. I used AJA TV to bypass FCP and still no results. Very confused.

This is exactly what we’ve done. But for whatever reason the caption will not display on our screens. We cannot seem to figure out what is preventing it from displaying. We know the data is passing through on line 21 because we can see it on the monitor, but the caption does not show. ????

We have historically sent our stuff to network and let them close caption. In light of the current economy, we are looking for ways to reduce expenditures and we have found a couple companies who will create the caption files for significantly less money than the network. We were are trying this with a commercial to check for viability rather than a show that is on deadline.

They have provided the caption file and we can put it in FCP and the data is present on line 21. We can see the data on our preview monitors when overscanned. When we create a QT movie, we can see the data. We just do not get any of the captioning text on our TV when we play it via Kona TV or through a deck as a pass through.

    Walter,

I have been using a company called hostnine for several years and have not any problems. They have great support and great up-time. They offer an unlimited plan for only 6.95 per month. I’ve been pleased with the hosting, support and speed.

Use Media Manager or Batch Export from the Final Cut Browser. Here is a great article related to this issue from Ken Stone.

[Phil Carr] “Is there any way i can stop the troubles you spoke about?”

The only way to properly address them is to get a Mac Pro or a Macbook Pro. However, a fix for the system you are looking at is to partition the internal hard drive into two separate drives. Using one partition as a system drive and the other as a capture scratch drive. You can then use the firewire to digitize to the capture scratch and use then connect an external HDD for backup via USB (Never work with video from a USB drive!). It would work.

[Phil Carr] “Is it hard to out-put a video from Final cut studio, or will i run into trouble because of my systems Specs?”

Exporting for youtube and web video is simple via FCP. Your system will not have a problem with the export. Use the Export>Use Quicktime Conversion.

March 27, 2009 at 6:11 pm in reply to: Final Cut requirements question!

[Phil Carr] “I will only be using my Mac for Video Production. So i’m intending to be using Final Cut Studio 2.”

The major limitation with the new iMac for production is with digitizing. It only comes with one firewire port (firewire 800). If you anticipate using external storage and digitize via firewire, the iMac may cause you some headaches. Using a firewire hub will help, but you are extending the bus speed over multiple firewire inputs and you MAY find you drop frames when digitizing.

You MAY also run into some headaches when working with Motion projects and when you have to do alot of rendering. I say headaches because he system will run Final Cut Studio 2, but it may be slow at times and you will get the beach ball frequently.

All in all, it is a good machine for Final Cut production work as long as you recognize the places where you may run into headaches and issues.

March 25, 2009 at 1:46 pm in reply to: Project Management Software

Have you looked at Final Cut Server? It is a project management application that will allow you to track the progress of projects, automate certain workflow processes and manage media/projects/files/etc. It can do as little or as much as you want and not a bad price.

    Great app.

[gary adcock] “there are no video outputs enabled when you set to capture via FW.”

The issue is when playing from my timeline. When I add clips to my timeline and play the timeline, my preview monitors are nothing but blue snow noise.

Point of Sale package refers to the merchandise sitting at a register, the point of sale. It is usually some spontaneously driven item that you would have otherwise passed up, but since your checking out and its there, why not go ahead and buy it.
