An image-based particle system (like particleIllusion) can’t do photo-realistic fluids as you’re talking about. So probably not.

If you’re talking about the first one (sort of a lightning strike), then use particleView (download it if you don’t have it already) and search for “lightning”.

    I’m still working on it.

The “problem” is that you have more than one particle type in that emitter, and you need to change the image for all of them.

Put the emitter on the stage, open the props dialog for it, then select each particle type (in the hierarchy) and look at the “change shape” page for each.

May 23, 2008 at 6:45 pm in reply to: Meaning of an Emitter Icon

Each object (emitter, blocker, deflector, force) has its own icon in the hierarchy. A blocker icon should always look like your image. An emitter should never.

So I’m not sure what you mean about converting one icon to another.

Are you talking about in the hierarchy window? I can’t figure out what you mean. Can you post a screengrab (or email it to support at wondertouch dot com)?

May 23, 2008 at 11:41 am in reply to: Rotation of an emitter!

Not simple, but you can probably do it in this case by changing the velocity, or maybe velocity over life, and also using “size over life” to make particles grow as they get older (closer to the “camera”).

Tough one with a 2D particle system.

May 23, 2008 at 11:39 am in reply to: No Visible Path When Using Curved Path

A dot shows the position of the emitter at each frame. If your position keys are too close together (there are no frames between them) you won’t see any “path”.

If you do have keys that close together (perhaps from using a motion tracker, or using the “record position” feature) then there’s no reason to use curved keys anyway.

  • When you export the Voodoo tracking data as “text file”, what information does it provide? If you can modify the data (using a spreadsheet program perhaps) so you only have the following info on each line:

    frame_number x_pos y_pos

Then you can import that into particleIllusion (from text file).

I’d check out Voodoo now and see what data is added to the file, but I have too much to do right now already.

Take a look at the “mouse” emitter in the default library. It uses the “single” option in the emitter properties dialog.

Once your emitter contains a “single” particle, you can animate the “angle” property to rotate it.

There are “dust puff” emitters in one of the libraries (at least one), if that’s what you’re looking for. Make sure you have all of the libraries, then use particleView to search for “dust”.
