Pro Emitters work with particleIllusion 3.0 only. They don’t work with Motion.
The only products we have that works with Motion is our “Emitters for Motion” libraries.

For some reason they show as exec on Macs, but particleIllusion loads them fine.

Remove the background image instead of turning it off and let me know if that works.

It sounds to me like you’re not using the latest version of pIRender. When you do a “check for updates” do you see pIRender listed? If so, download and install the update.
If that’s not the problem or it still doesn’t work after updating, email support at wondertouch dot com and we’ll figure out the details of what’s wrong.

Only the latest versions work with Leopard. Get the updates here:

Aha! If you hold down the Alt (option) key when launching particleIllusion, it will skip the autoupdate check.
I think that eventually it would have timed out and given you a message. I wonder how long that takes, and why it is not working for you?
If you do a “check for updates” once the program is running does it work, or does it still “lock up”?
How long does it take before it times out?
Do you have any firewall, anti-virus, etc. apps running? If so, what are they?

Delete the following file if it exists and try again:
Users / Shared / Ticket / particleIllusion.Ticket

I say this all the time: don’t use uncompressed video! There’s no point to it.
Use a lossless codec like Lagarith or Huffyuv. Smaller filesize, uses less bandwidth, perfect quality.
Quality loss due to compression only applies to lossy compression, not lossless. Ever created or used a ZIP file? That’s lossless compression. No data is lost, so when applied to video, it’s perfect quality. Compress it with a lossless codec as many times as you want.

I’d suggest uninstalling, then reinstalling. If it’s already activated on this machine, you probably won’t need to activate again since you haven’t changed hardware.
Don’t forget to backup any emitter libraries you’ve modified or created before uninstalling.
