Does this instability happen when you don’t use a video clip?
What format is the 280MB clip (WMV, AVI)? What codec does it use?
Can you convert it to a different codec that provides better compression? Can you convert it into a jpg image sequence and try that instead?
(The image-file-loading code is older, while the movie code was updated in 3.0.2 and 3.0.3, so if there are issues with movies, there probably are not with image sequences)
Finally, it could be an OpenGL (video driver) issue, so check to see if your video card manufacturer’s website has a newer driver for your card.

Take a look at “Silly Sling” on the “other” downloads page of our website. This is an Excel file to calculate spirals, circles, and other crazy paths. You can then use the output with “import position data” for an emitter.

There are several sheets in the file — the first one is “instructions”, the second is where you input data, and the third is the data to export.
The presets don’t work for me, but I’m using OpenOffice Calc, not Excel.

No ideas. If you’re still having a problem, please send a SHORT (10-frame) clip that exhibits the problem to support at wondertouch dot com and we’ll take a look at it. Please ZIP the clip too, and verify that it has the problem for you before sending it.

The key here is that pIRender is doing the rendering, not particleIllusion itself.
Run pIllusionRender manually and turn off hardware acceleration in it(click the Options button).
Now do your render again and I think it will be fine.

There’s a new update installer on our site now that doesn’t have this problem:

Notice the “_a” in the filename.
This one will let you choose the destination — If you haven’t done the manual install yet, please give this new installer a try.

There is a manual update you can do instead:

There is no installer — just unzip the files into your particleIllusion 3 application folder, replacing the existing files. Don’t drag the entire folder — select and drag all of the files and folders that are in the folder to your particleIllusion 3.0 folder. (does that make sense?)

Email support at wondertouch dot com please. Deleting prefs usually works (it has for everybody who has had this problem so far).
It’s the same (?) issue that people running the new 3.0.7 demo are having on 10.5.4 only (don’t know about earlier 10.5 versions).
