This is an After Effects question, not a particleIllusion one. In AE set the work area to the clip you want to export, export using a lossless codec or image sequence, then use that in particleIllusion as reference. Then render the particles alone with an alpha channel, load that into AE and composite.

Ah, pretty nice. One suggestion: the legs don’t end in the same position they start, so they “jump” back to the initial position. It ruins the smooth loop.

Once you fix the loop, make the output resolution 256 x 256.

I’d also like to see a greyscale version of the eagle (with alpha), and also a plain white “matte” version — where there’s no internal detail, just a silhouette of the eagle (like the flapping bird particle shape image that already exists).

I’ve said this before, but the reason you see more flares, sparkles, etc. is that they are using the various particleIllusion features — they use combinations of simple, existing images to make interesting effects.

The “animation” emitters you’re talking about aren’t really using particleIllusion features — they’re using complex image sequences to do all of the work. For this you need somebody to generate the complex sequence of the mouse walking, bird flying, etc. That’s something that I don’t have the talent or time to do.

  • It is probably your OpenGL drivers — download the latest drivers for your graphics card from the card manufacturer’s website. Might be ATI, or NVIDIA.

You can convert any emitter to an area emitter by r-clicking on it on the stage and “make area”.

Stencil is like an overlay that masks out particles and parts of particles. You can achieve the same thing using masks in other applications.

A better solution might be to use and area emitter mask.

    1) add an area emitter to the stage
    2) Make it the same size as the stage
    3) Add a background image, sequence, or movie that contains alpha
    4) open properties dialog for stage emitter
    5) check “mask area emitter with image(s)
    6) click the mask “options” button, etc.

The area emitter mask is different in that it defines where the particles are created. It does not cut off parts of particles, or restrict where particles can go after they are created.

Try exporting an image sequence instead of a movie file, or try a different movie codec. Also, try a 320×240 project. If that works, maybe it’s pIllusionRender that is the problem.

You need to post a lot more details.

Update to the latest version of particleIllusion 3. Version 3.0.1 may contain a bug in that area. It’s been so long I can’t remember.

No, you can do this in SE too.

The key is to save with an alpha channel. That means either choose PNG output, or choose an AVI codec that supports alpha, such as Lagarith or HuffYUV.

  • Just the project file (.IP3) zipped.
