I need you to provide me with some simple steps to reproduce this. I know that “save alpha” sounds like it’s the key, but is it because it’s 2 layers? Because it has footage on another layer?
I need the simplest project or steps that can reproduce the problem please.

pIRender should have the same output options as pI3 does, so you are missing something.
But you’re right that you can’t minimize or cover the pI3 window during a render — some video cards/drivers won’t render what’s not visible, and pI3 takes the stage window contents and writes them to file. So no stage window contents, nothing useful in the file.

Yes. You can’t just “make particle” from an image like you do in Apple Motion. You have an existing emitter, then you change the image(s) that are used for it.
The text tutorial shows you how. Instead of starting with a text emitter, start with one that will behave more like what you want.

They both open for me. I clicked the link, then chose “open” to have the zip file opened by Winzip. Then I extracted the ip3 file, saving to a folder. It opened fine in pI3. (both project files did, except the “final” one had missing images)

You want to use them as a background for a layer, or for particles?
The Mac version supports Quicktime only, and the Windows version supports AVI (not Quicktime). You can convert to PNG image sequence which is supported by both versions.
If you’re going to be using them for particles, then you can add them to a library, but that’s not really “permanent”, as they would be available to that one library only.

There is no function in particleIllusion for this. You have to use the “crossfade” trick, where you fade a copy of the video into itself to create a loop.

Try the “active” graph. Or use the “number” graph to shut off the creation of particles.
