Sorry — I forgot on the Mac version you can’t disable hardware acceleration.
You won’t see the “HQ motion blur” option if motion blur is off.
I’m really puzzled by this. A couple things to clarify:
1) What you see in the stage window in pI3 looks fine during normal playback?
2) If you render without “Save alpha” checked, do you see the same problem?

Do you have motion blur turned on? High-quality motion blur specifically? That’s one reason I can think that the bg image might be partially transparent. Turn it off or switch to “regular” motion blur.
It could also be:
1) a bug in pIRender. Is the render happening in pI3 itself, or in pIRender?
2) an OpenGL issue. Try “run with software rendering” or open pIRender manually and turn off hardware acceleration there in the “options” dialog.

First, make sure you’re using version 3.0.4.1 or newer.
If you are, then please send me a short video clip that has the problem and I can debug it. Send it to support at wondertouch dot com.
If you’re creating the AVI yourself using some application, see if you can choose a different AVI codec when creating it.

If you’re on Mac the update check stopped working at least 6 months ago when we changed servers. There will be an update released sometime in the near future that fixes this.
FYI the latest public releases are:
pI3 Win: 3.0.4.1 (aka 3.0.4a)
pI3 Mac: 3.0.8.1
pISE Win: 2.0.5.1
pISE Mac: 2.0.3A limited number of people have pI3 Win 3.0.5.1, but there may be some issues so we haven’t widely released that yet.

If you’re running 3.0.5 (Win) already, you can “check for updates” to get the 3.0.5.1 update.
If you’re running 3.0.4a or lower, you shouldn’t see the 3.0.5.1 update available with good reason: it will break your activation. 3.0.4 shouldn’t have any of the problems that 3.0.5 does with Windows 7.
If you’re running a very old version (like 3.0.2) then the 3.0.5.1 update might show up in the AutoUpdater due to a bug in 3.0.2. If you do see it, DO NOT UPDATE! The 3.0.5.1 update is only for 3.0.5.

Lagarith may not be set to save alpha. In the pI dialog where you choose a codec, there is a “configure” button — click that and make sure it’s set to save RGBA or whatever the terminology is.

I think what probably happened was you got 3.0.5 to start with (that’s what you got when you purchased), then saw my test update which was labeled as 3.0.5.1 but was actually just 3.0.5 again. This test update was only on the server for a short time.
So you installed it but really still have 3.0.5. You can verify that this happened by checking your “about” dialog. If it says “3.0.5 test”, that’s what you have. It’s exactly the same code as 3.0.5 except for that “about” string.
When the real 3.0.5.1 is released you’ll see that listed, and after the update the version string will actually be 3.0.5.1.
