The search window only opens when you press “S”.

I know you’re frustrated, but saying “it bombed” doesn’t really help.

When exactly did it crash? (list the steps you took before it did)

What crash message did you get (if any)? Was it a particleIllusion-specific message, or a Windows generic message?

What version of Windows are you running?

Were you running in an account that has admin priviledges?

What version of particleIllusion were you running before?

Are you saying that it needs a new activation code and you’re unable to get one?

Please provide as much information as possible, or I’ll never be able to fix this. Like I said originally, it works for most people, and I was unable to duplicate the problems.

It may be more helpful to send your answer to support at wondertouch dot com instead of posting here.

No, I just reposted the exact same versions as before, so you already have the latest.

I’m not sure what you mean by “won’t find” your movies. If you point it to a folder that contains AVI files, it should at least let you choose them.

What is the exact error message you’re getting when you choose an AVI?

The particleIllusion product pages say that it “works with any video editing or compositing application” — not that it loads “any video format”. If you can point me to the page that gave you the impression that it works with any video format that would be helpful as we’ll need to review the text there.

Finally, what exact version number are you using? (Check the “about” screen for the exact version number and date). It’s slightly possible you’re using an old version.

The Windows version loads AVI and WMV only. The Mac version loads QuickTime only.

Is this particleIllusion 3.0 or SE? Mac or Windows?

  • I don’t know where your emails are going, but they’re not coming to me. Please send a brand new message to support at wondertouch dot com (with a new subject line — don’t include any ticket numbers). I don’t want to handle this in the forum.

That’s a bad particle shape image. Some of the older shape images didn’t fade out near the edges. To fix it, you have to fix the shape. Here’s how I typically do it:

    1) open the emitter properties dialog
    2) select the “bad” shape on the “change shape” page, and click the “export” button. Save the image as PNG or TGA.
    3) Open the image in your favorite paint app, and adjust the contrast a little, darken the lows, or whatever to darken the image a little around the edges.
    4) Take the eyedropper tool and run it around the edges of the image, making sure that the pixels go to RGB 0,0,0. If they even go to 1,1,1 they will form those sharp edges when enough of them are drawn on top of each other.
    5) Save the image, reimport into particleIllusion
    6) I suggest renaming the “bad” shape with “_bad”, so you don’t get them mixed up.

If you just want to replace the bad shape in this one emitter only (the safer choice) just “make current” for the particle type.

If you want to replace that bad shape with the new one in ALL of the emitters in the current library, do the following:

    7) Drag the new shape so it’s right *above* the “bad” image in the list
    8) Delete the “bad” shape from the list. All particle types that use the “bad” shape will now use the shape above it in the list — the new “good” shape.

The first thing to do is look at “velocity”. If the velocity graph has multiple data points in it, that could be causing this.

In this particle type it does not, so look at “velocity variation” — since it’s “0”, that’s not it either.

Look also at motion randomness and motion rand. var. — they’re both “0” in this case.

The last thing to look at is “size over life”. If a particle’s reference point is not at the center, and the particle grows over time, it will appear to “move”, when really it’s just growing. In this case, that is exactly what’s going on. Now you need to look at “size variation” and also “life variation” — one or both of those is probably what is causing the slow and fast particles.

December 28, 2010 at 2:32 pm in reply to: Great trouble with zoom when importing.

With SE, all rendering happens in the stage window, and it’s WYSIWYG. Unless your desktop resolution is larger than the output resolution (the resolution of your captured video in this case) you won’t be able to do it in SE.

There are some cases where a workaround is possible (for instance if you’re adding an effect that doesn’t take up your full frame output size), but it’s a little more difficult.

So step 1 is to maximize SE so it fills your desktop. Step 2 is to manually resize the stage window so it can fit your output size (not possible unless your desktop resolution is higher than the output size you want).

This is a known problem. I think deleting the prefs file should fix it, but if you can verify that when you get a chance that would be helpful.
