Then you just need to configure the codec as I suggested and it will work fine.

please email support at wondertouch dot com.

Include as much detail as possible: the exact error message, when it displayed, what version you were running before the update, did you see the message immediately after downloading the update, what version of Windows are you using, are you running with administrator privileges, etc.

Basically anything you can think of that will help me.

Try with a TGA image instead of AVI. If that doesn’t work, then how exactly are you determining that the output doesn’t have alpha?

If TGA works and Lagarith still doesn’t, on the screen where you select the Lagarith codec, click the Options button (or is it “configure”?) Then make sure you have the codec itself set to use alpha.

Use a format that supports alpha (TGA, PNG, AVI with certain codecs like HuffYUV or Lagarith). Then in the output options dialog check “save alpha”.

January 20, 2011 at 10:42 pm in reply to: Least CPU/drawing-intensive Background Clip Codec/s?

I would avoid WMV. Probably my choices would be in this order:

    1) image sequence (JPG, TGA, PNG)

    2) AVI with HuffYUV codec

    3) AVI with DivX codec

Also, make sure the “use new method of loading AVIs” is NOT checked. That will use the older (but faster) AVI loading code, but doesn’t support DV AVIs (which you’re not using if you use my choices above).

Note that this setting doesn’t make a difference for images.

Also, in the OpenGL page of Preferences, try it with the “do not use texture RAM” option checked and unchecked — see which is faster. Easiest way to do this is to start a new project, add an image sequence or AVI, no emitters, and hit PLAY. See what framerate you get. Then change this setting and see if the framerate changes much.

Video drivers. I bet it won’t crash if you use the “run with software rendering” option in the Start menu.

January 17, 2011 at 9:23 pm in reply to: Best “Precision” Mouse for PI?

I don’t think the mouse precision has anything to do with it. I know that when you’re zoomed out, selecting an emitter or point can be a problem. Zoomed in, I don’t know about though.

I sometimes have to resort to key shortcuts to select and move emitters. TAB key cycles between emitters if an emitter is selected, or points if a point is selected. Once you get the right thing selected, use the “Move” function move that emitter or point.

What this says to me is that either you accidentally deleted some needed files, didn’t do a real install (maybe tried to copy files from a previous install location), or you don’t have access to a full installer.

If you don’t have access to the full installer, this sounds to me like you don’t have a licensed (legal) copy of particleIllusion.

If that’s the case, I don’t appreciate your comments here.

    Yes, you’re up-to-date.

pIRender has a little “?” button in the lower left of the dialog.
