Try deleting the preferences. Spotlight search for “pIllusion3.prefs” and trash that file.

If that doesn’t fix the problem, send an email to support at wondertouch dot com with as much detail as possible, including a bit more of the crash report.

Actually, I think I figured it out. Check both of these folders:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\particleIllusion 3.0\Emitter Libraries

    C:\Program Files\particleIllusion 3.0\Emitter Libraries

It may be that the update uses the first path on 64-bit Windows (incorrectly), while the old version uses the second. Copy any emitters missing from one to the other and you should be set.

    That’s my theory at least.

You would only see that message one time, then you would lose your activation.

Actually, I think I know the problem: your email address is bouncing. I’ve included the message we get below, but xx’d out parts of your address.

particleIllusion doesn’t get *any* emails. =)

GenArts / wondertouch does though, and we did get yours. I wonder if the autoreply went to a spam folder?

Photoshop might be unpremultiplying the alpha channel to display it — pIllusion doesn’t do that. Does Maya have an option to output a “straight” (or unpremultiplied) alpha channel?

If not, you might be able to use Photoshop to “fix” the image by unpremultiplying the alpha channel, then saving (to a different filename to be safe). I don’t use Photoshop enough to know though.

The “use audio from layer” option is only available under specific conditions.

    1) the input and output movies must both be AVI
    2) the output movie must be the same number of frames as the input movie.

A much better way of working would be to work in pI, then when everything is perfect, turn off the bg image (using the BG icon in the layer window), render to an AVI format that supports alpha channel (like HuffYUV or Lagarith), check the “save alpha” option and render.

You’ll end up with a movie of just the particles. Then load that into your video editing software and layer it on top of your original video.

    Make sense?

Are you ever seeing a “File Damaged” message?

If so, it means you’re trying to open a second copy of pI3 (it’s already open). The old version gave you the message but left the license, while the new version resets the license (an unintended side effect of a change to fix something else).

So, are you seeing the “file damaged” message?

There’s no “trailer” setting. Usually it involves setting the velocity to 0 so the particles don’t move, then if you’re going for a “chaser” type effect use the color gradient “repeat” option.

I can’t be more specific without knowing more about what you want to do.

Sounds like it. If you have removable drives, remove them all, then activate. Then you should be able to add/remove drives without problems.

If you didn’t add/remove any drives, did you update any hardware on your system?
