Alan… For some reason, when I tried to open PI this evening, it asked for my activation code and the couple I have didn’t work. I have no idea what made it do that. Do I need a new activation code?

Sounds like it. If you have removable drives, remove them all, then activate. Then you should be able to add/remove drives without problems.

If you didn’t add/remove any drives, did you update any hardware on your system?

Didn’t add or remove any hardware. I think I did the upgrade on PI and then a # of the emitters (from 9-9l on) didn’t show up so downloaded them again but the Last group of emitters (10-12) didn’t show with I opened PI even though it appeared in my emitters folder. So… I copied it from my desk top and replaced it in the emitters folder and that’s when PI asked me for my activation code.

I’ve got exactly the same problem. About a month or so ago PI started asking for an activation code.

Not only does it ask for an activation code, but then after a couple of minutes, the program crashes.

    Running 10.6.6 Mac OSX – MacPro – 16GB RAM

I have an iMac @ home that works just fine. Only difference is a single processor vs dual-processors @ work (which is the machine that crashes the app).

No new hardware – regular software updates from Apple

Wow! That sounds complicated! I got a new activation code and now PI works fine… the only thing… I downloaded the latest group of emitters (emitters_10_12) and they downloaded to my document folder and said they had to be moved to my emitters folder by me. I did this and then they didn’t show up when I opened PI. Guess I will just live without them! I am a little gun shy of messing around with the program anymore!

I am going thru the same problem and have had to reactivate twice so far. It started right after I downloaded the latest update to PI3.

Are you ever seeing a “File Damaged” message?

If so, it means you’re trying to open a second copy of pI3 (it’s already open). The old version gave you the message but left the license, while the new version resets the license (an unintended side effect of a change to fix something else).

So, are you seeing the “file damaged” message?

Nope, not getting any “file damaged” message

You would only see that message one time, then you would lose your activation.

As far as I know, I never saw that message. Do you know why my reactivated PI won’t recognize the latest emitter group?

Actually, I think I figured it out. Check both of these folders:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\particleIllusion 3.0\Emitter Libraries

    C:\Program Files\particleIllusion 3.0\Emitter Libraries

It may be that the update uses the first path on 64-bit Windows (incorrectly), while the old version uses the second. Copy any emitters missing from one to the other and you should be set.

    That’s my theory at least.

    Alan.
