You should always use the smallest size images that you can and not lose quality. When particleIllusion has to scale particle images very small or very large, the image quality degrades.

If you’re using a “full color” image as the particle shape, do you really need it? Full-color shapes use much more memory than greyscale shapes. One tip: if you have a full-color shape and then check the “intense” option for that particle type, there is an internal conversion to greyscale. So if you’re not using that particle shape anywhere else, you might as well import it as greyscale.

Also, if you are using an image sequence, then there may not be anything you can do about the size: a lot of frames takes up a lot of memory.

Don’t know if this helped at all. If you can post some examples of the emitter and problems you’re having with quality, and give more info about particle shape size, etc., that would help me give a better answer.

Yes, I guess it’s possible. If you want to verify that it’s an OpenGL problem, then use the “run with software rendering” option in the Start – Programs – particleIllusion 3.0 menu. If the problems go away, then it’s definitely a driver issue.

Get the latest drivers from https://www.nvidia.com. If you already have the latest drivers and they are “beta” drivers, then use an older “released” or “qualified” driver version instead.

The July 2003 library contains the “jungle” emitter, although it has a different name. It’s in the “Eki Halkka” folder (if I remember correctly) and you need to turn on the “don’t erase” option in the project settings for it to create plants.

The Windows version does not currently have Quicktime support.

What type of image are you trying to load? particleIllusion does not support every image format available.

Try using the Cinema 4D position exporter:

No, there are no quality differences, but it’s much slower. In theory, software rendering should produce identical results as using hardware acceleration. I’ve never done a pixel-by-pixel comparison though.

You should check to see if there are updated drivers for your graphics card. If you’ve got the latest drivers and they are “beta” drivers, try going back to the newest “released” or “qualified” driver.

Have you installed any new apps since it last worked?

Can you render out an AVI in pIllusion?

If so, can you load that rendered AVI back into pIllusion?

Can you use an AVI as a particle shape image?

Is the stage size the exact same size as the dimensions of the clip?
