Hello to all. First of all sorry for that “testing” post i did, i had alot of trouble getting this forum activation to work. Well here is the deal. I use an elsa quadro dcc video card from nvidia in my computer, recently i did a clean install (software, drivers and all) on my computer. Every thing was working well with particle illusion 3.0.1a (i was able to use hardware open gl acceleration) but now i can’t use open gl acceleration with PI 3.0.1a or it will freeze/ crash my pc, it does the same with lightwave 3d 7.5 as well. If any one had experience with such a card or knows the settings to make please let me know. I use winxp pro. Thanks in advance guys.

    Hey there-

First things first – update your video drivers – Download the latest ones from the company’s website (that made your video card). If that doesn’t help let us know.

Well still the same thing happens, but i was able to narrow the problem down to opengl texture. When not activated (opengl textures)lightwave works well but when activated lightwave 3d 7.5 crashes and particle illusion still crashes too.

Sounds like an Open GL problem, not related to pIllusion. However, try checking the following option:

view > Preferences > Open GL Tab > “Don’t use Texture RAM for Background images.”

See if activating this option helps.

This is a bit out of my area of knowledge, but it’s worth a shot.

Is it possible that winxp sp2 could have caused this? My pc worked well before sp2. I can’t run any opengl programs with textures or they will freeze.

If your out-flow exceeds your in-flow your up-keep will be your down-fall.

Yes, I guess it’s possible. If you want to verify that it’s an OpenGL problem, then use the “run with software rendering” option in the Start – Programs – particleIllusion 3.0 menu. If the problems go away, then it’s definitely a driver issue.

Get the latest drivers from https://www.nvidia.com. If you already have the latest drivers and they are “beta” drivers, then use an older “released” or “qualified” driver version instead.

Oh yes it is definitely an opengl problem because i did as you said “run with software rendering” and it works like a charm. I am using the most current drivers from nvidia (not beta) but the problem still persist. Than you Alan and Aharon for your help.

Have you checked Elsa’s site? Perhaps their drivers work better?
