Those are a little too “crazy” for my tastes, but I’m using them as starting points for other variations. Images with faded edges are best, so please come up with more images! On the water lights image, if that image didn’t have the lights in it, it would make another really convincing water surface — do you have a similar image that doesn’t have the light streaks in it?

Ah, sorry. The first step is to produce some “wispy smoke” images to use as particle shape images. You’ve seen the more advanced version of Elvis disintegrating in our last demo reel, right? Where he turns into “wispy smoke”, then reassembles?

Don’t expect to duplicate the nightcrawler effect exactly, but you’ll be able to do some cool similar things.

What formats? What resolution? What is the length of the clip? Are you doing this with any emitters, or just the video? What video card do you have? Have you updated to the latest video drivers for your card? Are you using Windows or Mac? particleIllusion 3.0 or SE? What OS version?

(Get the point? You didn’t give nearly enough information for us to give you a good answer.)

    The tutorials here will help:

Also, Elvis just released a new video tutorial on a similar effect that may help fill in more of the details:

You’ll have to save in a different format from Pinnacle Studio, although I’m not sure how to specify the format that it uses when it saves. Use a high-quality modern codec like “DivX”, “xvid”, or for lossless quality “huffy UV”. Any of these are available for free download if you search for them.

Have you tried doing this yet? It is quite simple — just use a deflector.

Here is an example file I quickly put together.

I didn’t make any Halloween emitters. Need to finish up the Oct lib though, so maybe I’ll come up with a couple.

I’ll be putting up a pIllusion AE status page on our site soon. I don’t think it will be released by the end of the year, but early ’07 seems reasonable.

Um, which part of it? The only thing particleIllusion 3.0 doesn’t do is the “attractors”. Everything else there: force fields, deflectors, are possible.

October 31, 2006 at 12:20 am in reply to: Using PI at HD resolutions?

No. pIllusion itself has to render in a visible window (at this time), so your stage window has to be large enough to fit the stage area you want.
