particleIllusion does not currently take advantage of multiple CPUs, so better video card might be better. It’s difficult to say exactly though. One thing you can try on your current setup is to add a medium-complexity emitter to the stage. Then try different zoom settings and see how the playback speed changes. If at higher zooms things slow down noticeably, then your video card is at least part of the problem.

Can I suggest that you don’t use TIFF? There are too many different flavors of TIFF, and sometimes there are problems. I’m guessing that the original files used a different type of compression (better) than the compression pI3 uses on output.
I’d suggest going with PNG.

So you want to take the library emitters that somebody else created (a “preset” in essence), render that to an AVI unmodified and sell it as your own work?
Legally, we don’t prevent you from doing this — you can use the rendered output of the emitter libraries any way you want (you can’t sell the emitters though). Ethically, do you really want to do this?

I’d suggest putting together a “trailer” for your movie that is a minute or so long, and contains some of the best parts — you’ll have more luck getting people to watch that and comment than you would with a 14-minute movie.

Yes with particleIllusion 3.0. You have to set your project up for that resolution at the start by setting the stage size to 1280 x 720. Then, you have to make sure that you make the stage window itself big enough to fit 1280 x 720 (since pIllusion needs a visible window to render into). If you can’t get a stage window large enough, you’ll have to work zoomed out, then do your final render using pIllusionRender.

The Windows version doesn’t have QuickTime support, so your best choice is either PNG sequence, or if you want a single file, an AVI using the Huffy UV codec. Huffy is free and lossless, just like the Animation compressor in QuickTime.

Yes, alpha in AVI (for codecs that support it), DV AVI support, WMV support. Possibly more.
