Yes, any new releases will be XP-compatible. particleIllusion 3 still runs on Win 98, so it will be a long time before XP support is dropped.

    Product pricing:

    – 3.0.2 Win – free update
    – pIllusion AE (the After Effects plug-in) — probably $249, but 1/2 price if you own 3.0 (or buy them together)
    – 3.5 Win / Mac – upgrade price not determined yet

The “error loading image file” problem is fixed in the 3.0.5 update (which will be released this month). You may be able to work around the problem by renaming the file with a “.mov” extension.

Unfortunately there is no “preserve audio” function now, so pIllusion strips off the audio.

Does anybody know if you can add audio back into a clip using iMovie or any other included or free tools on the Mac?

Don’t worry — when it does go 3D, there will be a way to stay in 2D mode if that’s what you prefer.

No exact date, but I’m accepting beta test requests now. Open to current pI3 for Windows owners only. Send email to wondertouch support.

[sionzero] “Would like to see the blackhole in 3D”

    You can’t see a black hole. 😉

    We’re planning 4.0 to be 3D, but don’t expect that until 2008.

February 27, 2007 at 1:28 pm in reply to: Question: Saving alpha chanel from multiple layers

You’re not doing anything wrong. particleIllusion currently only creates an alpha channel from the particles, and ignores alpha in any background layers. So, you’ll need to do your final composite in another app.

I think I already answered this: Alpha channel.

If you save PNG, you need to uncheck the “Save Alpha” option.

You can’t use this technique in particleIllusion with an alpha channel, since particleIllusion creates an alpha channel for the particles only.

If you really need a looping animation with an alpha channel, then you need to do the “crossfade” in a compositing application, not in particleIllusion itself.

And this same exact file worked in pIllusion before you installed that other app?

Did any video drivers get updated?

I wonder if the “uncompressed” codec got updated? This is the problem that some people have seen with uncompressed AVIs, and it’s why I always recommend Huffy UV instead of uncompressed. I’ve never been able to get this to happen on any of my systems, and I haven’t been able to find a solution. It’s strange that it worked for you a short while ago, and now it does not.

Did that other app create an install log of any sort? It would be nice to know what changed on your system.
